Hey guys just got a strip of led for a cheap price. Now, to install there are a lot of ways, I tried to slice of one moles connector and connect the positive and negative wires to the led strip(During this I accidently touched the positive with negative however the psu seem to work perfectly). This works however the led strip doesn't seem to be as bright as it should be. Also, would it affect the efficiency of the psu in long term? Just for your information I have seasonic 1050xm 80+ gold psu. Please let me know about any better way to install the strip.

It wouldnt effect the efficiency at all. Why would it?

Is it just a single colour LED strip? Solder a 5v source to it (red from the power supply) and a ground and it should work. What LEDs are on the strip?

Yep, red led strip. I think they are smd LEDs. Yeah I connected one red and one black, it worked perfectly however they weren't as bright as they should be.

Depending on the running voltage of your LED strip let it be either a 5V, or 12V, usually they are 12V just connect positive and negative of the correct voltages and you should be good. Also it shouldn't affect your PSU negatively in anyway.

12v led strip, so I sliced off one native moles connector and connected the wires, but LEDs are quite dim.

As long as you have the strip connected via the black and yellow lead on the molex (12V) it should be at maximum brightness. Depending on the type of LED modules in the LED strip some of them can be pretty dim, if your looking for something that has a lot of brightness to give a comparison the Bitfenix Alchemy strips are very bright since they use a 5050 SMD which are larger and give off more light, do you happen to know the ones your strip contains.

Don't know much other than they are smds also I had been connecting red and black wires of the molex connector.

5050 can have only two pads tho, the one in the picture shows 4 since it is a RGB LED, just compare the size of the LED to the resistor.

To reiterate what W-L is trying to tell you, you need to have a yellow lead from the PSU connecting to the positive lead of the LED strip, and a black lead from the PSU connecting to the negative lead of the LED strip. A few posts up you say you were connected to red on the PSU which is 5 volts, so your LED strip will be putting out less than half the light that it can put out when properly powered with 12 volts.
