I'm switching to Windows 8 and I use this function a TON on my iMac. I know about print screen and what not with Windows but is there something that is very similar to what you see on OS X? I don't like the idea that I have to edit what I'm capturing. With OS X I can basically hit 3 keys and get an icon like you see when cropping a photo to capture what's on my screen. I can select exactly what I want. Is there an app or anything like that out there?

Case: NZXT H500i. Motherboard: Asus Prime Z390-A. CPU: i7 9700k OC @ 5.0GHz. GPU: EVGA 2080 FTW3 CPU Cooler: NZXT X62. Memory: G. Skill Ripjaws 32Gb 3200mhz. Storage: 1TB Samsung 840 EVO SSD /  120GB Samsung 840 EVO SSD  /  WD Caviar Black 3TB / WD Caviar Green 4TB. . PSU: Corsair AX760. Monitor: 2x Acer XB270HU. Keyboard: Corsair K70 RGB. Snipping Tool should still be in Windows 8?

If you want to do it quickly ya'll are all wrong:

keyboard shortcut for capturing screenshots:

If you click the keyboard combination of the Windows Key + Print Screen, Windows 8 will capture the current screenshot and save it automatically in the Pictures Library. If you are on a tablet the combination is the Windows Key + Volume Down.

Thank me letter.

PS: you can't do this in win7

With print screen you have to edit though. If there's something particular I want to edit I want it to be quick. I don't want to screen cap then go and edit the file.

Puush is still easier. I bind in to the prntscrn button. So i press that and it auto-uploads to puush's servers and copy the image URL. A lot easier than anything else

en option for capturing (I think)

Wait what? Can you explain that? It sounds like the same thing as hitting print screen but I don't think it is otherwise you wouldn't have said something lol. Can you capture whatever you want on the screen without having to go and crop out what you don't want?

if you just want to take a quick screenshots or many quick screenshots in a row you can just press Windows + Prnt Sc at the same time and it will automatically save a screenshot of your whole screen into the pictures folder in windows.

The normal way is hitting Prnt Sc, then hitting the windows key, then typing paint, then clicking paste, then save, then name the file, and then close the window.

Oh okay. I was hoping for something a little more convenient. I'll have to keep looking. Thanks!

It's just as convenient as OSX if you want to take a screenshot of the whole screen.

If you want to quickly take parts of your screen however there are extensions for google chrome or applications for windows that will allow you to do that quicker.

Snipping Tool is simply amazing

That's the closest I've seen but do you have to open it up each time you want to use it? That's kind of annoying.

True, I meant for me though. I never cap the whole screen. I also cap things from emails and other things unrelated to browsers.

Sounds like you cap as much as I do. I just found something similar to what OS X does called greenshot. You should check it out.

Nothing will ever beat OS X's ease of screen capture sadly.

Actually, check out Greenshot. It's pretty much the exact same thing.

Requires the use of 3rd party software, which is not required in OS X

Oh jeez lol. You have to download it and set it up but after that you don't need to do a single thing other than what you'd do on a Mac. I might even go as far as saying it might be better. It's encouraging.
