$1000 build (without graphics card) - any changes needed?

pavyx

Budget (including currency): about $1000

Country: Croatia

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: I am a software engineer so a lot of programming (java, python) and a lot of AAA gaming (1440p once I find normally priced 3070)

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc):

This is a new (micro ATX) build so I need everything. The plan is to spend $1000 on PC without GPU and peripherals. This is my list:

CPU:           Ryzen 5600x                                                 $400   (new intel 11600kf is $350)

MoBo:         Asus TUF B550M-plus                                $165

RAM:          Corsair Vengeance LPX 2x8GB 3200MHz  $104

SSD:          WD Blue SN550 1TB                                    $131

PSU:          Corsair CX750F                                            $122 (RM750x is $150, is it worth it?)

Case:         Zalman M3 plus                                           $ 66 (I wanted a case with a mesh on front)

Total:                                                                      $ 988

My plan is to buy used 1070 ($400 which is insane but new 3070 is $1900).
Monitors: AOC Q27G2U (2560x1440, 144HZ, 1ms)     $315  -main display

               AOC 27B2H (1920x1080, 75Hz, 7ms)           $155  -secondary display

Have to buy everything in Croatia because either shipping or taxes are just too much. Any suggestions?

As a programmer, you should grab the 5800X for $50 more. That would be more than worth it. Four additional threads will make a big difference for builds.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 5900X · Cooler: Artic Liquid Freezer II 280 · Motherboard: MSI MEG X570 Unify · RAM: G.skill Ripjaws V 2x16GB 3600MHz CL16 (2Rx8) · Graphics Card: ASUS GeForce RTX 3060 Ti TUF Gaming · Boot Drive: 500GB WD Black SN750 M.2 NVMe SSD · Game Drive: 2TB Crucial MX500 SATA SSD · PSU: Corsair White RM850x 850W 80+ Gold · Case: Corsair 4000D Airflow · Monitor: MSI Optix MAG342CQR 34” UWQHD 3440x1440 144Hz · Keyboard: Corsair K100 RGB Optical-Mechanical Gaming Keyboard (OPX Switch) · Mouse: Corsair Ironclaw RGB Wireless Gaming Mouse

That was the original plan but the difference is more than $150.

Change the RAM to 3600, CL 16.

PS: If you can wait on the GPU, you could go with Intel with an iGPU, just saying.

Attention is what makes life meaningful.

If I do go 5800x, would Arctic Freezer 34 Duo be enough to keep it cool?

this is a great build, the only thing i would change is the motherboard to a better B550-A Pro (might be cheaper). and are you going to wait or buy a temp gpu?

I don't want a hard drive because of bad experiences so I do need 1TB SSD for now.

Ouch. That sucks, but I'd still say it'd probably be worth it in the long run. 6 cores is very light for a development workflow. I fear you'll regret it down the line.

Would you list a few please? I will buy a temp gpu (used 1070).

well for temp gpus i know people who go with rx550 (like $50) but if you cant handle the trash performance, then like a used 1050 ti might be okay. intel gpus are always a good descision as well
