So I’m having trouble overclocking my i9900k. I used the asus intell extreme tuning utility but I fee it’s just customizing the turbo boost not actually overclocking it. Also did it in bios using asus direct video but I think they did the same thing just tuned the boost. Benchmarks suck and running it in the tuning utility says 4.8 max and I have it set to 50 multiplier won’t let me go higher. So anyone familiar with bios setting to overclocking on an asus hero Maximus?  Was super easy to get my flu dialed in but a little apprehensive to actually start messing with bios too much without a little direction. Would really appreciate some help.

As far as I know changing the muliplier overclocks it so if it can't get past 50 then that might just be the limit to the overclocking set by intel. U said that the Benchmarks suck so do u mean that they are not quite as good as an overclocked 9900k should be or do u mean that it is worse than what u would expect even an unclocked 9900k to be? If u did overclock it correctly and are getting scores that might even be below the average unclocked 9900k score then I would think that your CPU might be getting too hot and therefore thermal throttling. What cooler are u using for ur CPU? Also, in case u are right and weren't able to overclock, what motherboad do u have as only mobos with top tier chipsets are allowed to overclock?

Asus hero Maximus z390 chipset...so I followed asus guide on overclocking then tried Linus video and couldn’t boot....so went back to stock I clock and my benchmarks went up by 20 percent. So once I “over locked” my scores got worse then improved once cleared cmos.

I have a Corsair water cooler never get above 50 maybe maybe 60 so don’t think it’s a thermal issue
