Hi! I have a quite old celeron system, and i want to throw the celeron away. The system contains a 2.4 ghz celeron processor in it. I want to buy a pentium 4, exactly this: # of Cores: 1 # of Threads: 2 Processor Base Frequency: 3.00 GHzCache: 1 MB L2 Cache Bus Speed: 800 MHz Socket: PPGA478. The MB is an Asus P4V8X-X, wich supports hyperthreading, and as I found at "overclocking mode" 800mhz front side bus too. It also writes that it supports prescott core processors, but i currently run a northwood, so idk anymore, anyone? Will it work? (note: Im younger than the motherboard)

What model number exactly? Would be more useful.

This page will help you to find a CPU to fit the list; if you enter your criteria into this page, you can find a list of Intel CPU's that meet the criteria.

EDIT:

P4 - 530, 540 & 550 would fit the bill.

Current PC spec. in my profile.
Can I realistically call myself a gamer, if I only play ONE, twenty year old game...?

Did you test boot it, before you built in into the case?

WHY NOT...?!

Thanks for replying! After a little research (the seller didn't write it out, cause why would he) it's spec number is SL7P, which means this is a P4 530, as I found out. https://ark.intel.com/content/www/us/en/ark/products/27463/intel-pentium-4-processor-530-530j-supporting-ht-technology-1m-cache-3-00-ghz-800-mhz-fsb.html

And because the processor is listed for about 3 dollars, it  definitely worth a try.

This CPU isn't on the mobo compatibility list and the manual says it only officially supports 533MHz FSB CPUs, but can do 800 through overclocking... so might work or not, maybe only with an underclock. Anyway, for $3 probably there's not much to lose.

Ye, i checked and didnt found on the list but it's support cpu with the same specs but higher clockspeed, so i'll try it, not a big deal. I also have 2 other 478 boards, one will probably support it. Thanks for answering!
