Specs:

Amd athlon x4 860k OCd to 4ghz

Zotac GTX 970 reference

10gb of ram (8gb 1600mhz and 2gb 1333mhz)

650w psu

1024x1280 monitor
A few days ago my gta 5 online started crashing, it happens when joining a new lobby, it just throws a white screen, but it doesn't happen every time. I tried underclocking the cpu, as it has had some problems, it didn't change anything, so it is likely my gpu. Should I start with underclocking the core, or the memory, I think the core is more of the problem. Also I have set the resolution scaling to 2x to utilise the gpu more, it somehow gets more fps that way. Should I also turn it down to reduce the gpu load?

There are few logs around the time it crashed:

The previous system shutdown at 19:27:48 on ‎31.‎03.‎2021 was unexpected. Previous shutdown.evtx

Audit events have been dropped by the transport.  0Audit.evtx

The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly. Shutoff.evtx

The application-specific permission settings do not grant Local Activation permission for the COM Server application with CLSID COM.evtx

Another CLSIDAnother COM.evtx

There isn't anything about the crash, or even anything close to the crash time

I decreased the core clock by 100 in msi afterburner, and it now is fine, will experiment later to get a little more performance

Yes very possible its an OC instability.
But the logs indeed show almost nothing, so i think your solution is best for now. 🙂

It isn't a OC instability, as I haven't even OCd the card. It's just that the card is showing it's age, also it being a blower card it has higher temps so it degrades a little faster. I haven't yet really experimented how high can I go until it crashes, but -80 is still good.
