Does it sound like a dead motherboard?

Hi P
Go to solution Solved by Bombastinator,

Probably won’t get many reply’s without specs. Especially with a black screen but no gpu mentioned.  I suggest reading the pinned posts in troubleshooting so you know which information to append.

Today my friend's computer would not boot up at all, we tried the following without luck:

  1. Reset CMOs
  2. Switching RAM sticks
  3. Removing GPU and Hard Drive
  4. Completely turn off power supply

The peripherals that DON'T turn on are the following:

  1. RAM sticks RGB, so perhaps the RAM isn't being powered?
  2. Keyboards connected via USB
  3. Monitor shows no sign of connectivity to it

The peripherals that DO turn on are the following:

  1. CPU fans
  2. GPU fans
  3. USB hub

We disconnected the GPU and Hard Drive but still no signal to the monitor, not even the BIOS.

The question is: Does this mean the motherboard is dead or could it be the power supply?

Thank you very much.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

Or dead PSU, or the cord got kicked out, or a cable isn’t put in the right way.  No 5v getting to the board though.
