Repair or reinstall Windows first and foremost to see if that corrects anything.

Did you try a restart?

 

Sometimes windows updates get jammed up and can take quite some time to come around, just leave it for a couple of hours and let it do its thing.

 

Last night I had to update the updater so the new update could update and restart and then after that it was able to complete the updating process and restart.  I wish this was a joke, took near 2hrs with a much better system. 

 

Had an old hp laptop last year that took like 6hrs.
