Moin @all,

I have a question. I am on Z390 Platform with an 9900KS and I have a RTX 3090... Currently the 3090 is not working because of compatibility between MB manufacturer and card manufacturer.

So, I am thinking about changing the MB for good.

Now I have two options. Option 1 is to keep the 9900KS and go with a different MB manufacturer. Option 2 is to leave both MB and CPU behind (sell it or redirect it in the family) and switch to a new plattform.

The question at this point is, if I switch platform to which platform do I switch? AMD or Intel? Is it worth to go with Intel again on 11. gen or do I go with X570 and this gen or last gen Ryzen?

Any thoughts?

Well unless you are okay with losing money, just get a new motherboard. I don't wish for you to resell your 9900K for above MSRP and then be stuck being stubborn because you won't buy a scalped Zen 3 CPU. Besides, do you NEED more than 16 threads, or do you think you would get any tangible improvement for your workflow with the small IPC improvement between the 9th and 11th gen i9? Because both are 16 threads, and 14nm.

Fuck you scalpers, fuck you scammers, fuck all of you jerks that charge way too much to tech-illiterate people.

Unless I say I am speaking from experience or can confirm my expertise, assume it is an educated guess.

Current setup: Ryzen 5 3600, MSI MPG B550, 2x8GB DDR4-3200, RX 5600 XT (+120 core, +320 Mem), 1TB WD SN550, 1TB Team MP33, 2TB Seagate Barracuda Compute, 500GB Samsung 860 Evo, Corsair 4000D Airflow, 650W 80+ Gold. Razer peripherals.

Also have a Alienware Alpha R1: i3-4170T, GTX 860M (≈ a 750 Ti). 2x4GB DDR3L-1600, Crucial MX500

@Nathanpete I know loosing money sucks, but depending on how much I would be loosing, I would consider it if its done and working. No, I do not need more than 16 threads and the theretical IPC improvment will not do anything for me.

@jaslion There should not be, but there is. I have a ASUS ROG Maximus XI Extreme and an EVGA 3090 FTW3 Ultra. I am researching a lot and found a few forum posts (here and elsewhere) stating the same problem with ASUS MB and EVGA FTW3 Cards. Why this is... nobody knows, I think not even ASUS or EVGA know why or do not care, I dont know. I have talked to both supports and both where just like "RAM the hell out of those two products and eventually in a year or so it might work because of a lucky pick"...

But to answer your question: When I boot with the 3090 I eigther get a black screen when Windows is loading or a few seconds into Windows. When restarted the MB gets stuck on Error 97 and the debug screen shows "load vga bios" and thats it. Stuck there for eternity. Reboot, BIOS reset, BIOS update, CMOS clear with IO button, CMOS clear with removed BIOS battery, clean Windows install... all for nothing (I did the windows install on my old 1080Ti).

New mobo, just do that. Less effort and less money spent.

I'd just get a decent new board no reason to spend heaps of money on a motherboard anyways as there are a fair few great boards under 200$. That and your current board holds a sort of status and should be a pretty easy sell at almost new price if you still have the box and such.
