Hello,

for a few weeks now I have issues where my PC randomly reboots - No freeze, No BSOD anything, just black screen and then normal boot.

My Specs:
CPU: Ryzen 7 5800X

Cooler: beQuiet DarkRock Pro 4

MB: Asus ROG Strix X570-F Gaming

GPU: Gainward RTX2070 Super

RAM: G.Skill AEGIS 32GB (4x8) @ 3200MHz

PSU: Seasonic Focus 750 Gold

Because I thought that it was from overheating I tried applying new thermal compound on my CPU, it helped to get the temp down a bit, but nothing really changed.

Then I tried to undervolt the CPU a little bit, but nothing changed either.

I then tried to really find out the temperatures when it reboots and found out that CPU doesn't go over 75°C when gaming and GPU doesn't go over 70°C.

Now I remember that when I played GTA 4 there is one bugged mission at the end, where if you have more than 30 FPS it's impossible to progress. For that I had started Furmark on GPU aswell as their stress for CPU and it never crashed under that load.

Benchmarks/Stress tests i tried with:

  • CPU-Z  - 1hr stress test
  • OCCT - 1hr stress test
  • memtest86 - 1hr test
  • Furmark - 1hr stress test + 1hr cpu stress test

But none of these benchmarks made the computer reboot.

Some of the games that reboots my computer:

  • R6:Siege (Randomly while playing)
  • Fall Guys (Doesn't even start)
  • Insurgency: Sandstorm (Cannot get into main menu)
  • LA Noire VR Case files (Cannot get past main menu)
  • CoD: MW/Warzone (Randomly while playing)
  • CoD: CW (Randomly while playing)

I really have no idea what should i try anymore.

If you have applied an OC remove that. Also, if your motherboard is doing an auto OC (sometimes call boost or gaming modes), disable those.

This type of thing normally occurs when the voltage going to the CPU is too great. It does a hard stop to protect the chip.

Backup all your files and save games if possible, and factory reset everything. Wouldn't hurt to write down or screenshot the current settings of things like the UEFI where you won't remember what the settings were. But run everything with the stock settings first. Factory reset the BIOS, the GPU, uninstall GeForce experience and Ryzen master, DDU, do it all, redo everything, then re-install everything, except for geforce experience, but that is my personal opinion. That is just the simplest and most brute force way to remove any sort of malfunctioning setting or OC. Of course there are cleaner and more delicate ways to do it, but I just prefer to do it the dirty way, that is just how I roll.

Fuck you scalpers, fuck you scammers, fuck all of you jerks that charge way too much to tech-illiterate people.

Unless I say I am speaking from experience or can confirm my expertise, assume it is an educated guess.

Current setup: Ryzen 5 3600, MSI MPG B550, 2x8GB DDR4-3200, RX 5600 XT (+120 core, +320 Mem), 1TB WD SN550, 1TB Team MP33, 2TB Seagate Barracuda Compute, 500GB Samsung 860 Evo, Corsair 4000D Airflow, 650W 80+ Gold. Razer peripherals.

Also have a Alienware Alpha R1: i3-4170T, GTX 860M (≈ a 750 Ti). 2x4GB DDR3L-1600, Crucial MX500

Chris Pratt - Running no OC on either GPU or CPU, as I said I even tried to undervolt the cpu but still didn't work - I have seen maximum of 1.45V on stress tests but never crashed.

Nathanpete - Tried that too - Installed Clean windows, only Nvidia drivers and Uplay/Battle.net but it's still doing it but only with a few games - For example Cyberpunk runs without any issues.

Its either your power supply or a background app causing it to restart. Certain anti virus programs are known to cause it. What is the exact make and model of your power supply and what is the recommended wattage of your GPU?

It's the Seasonic FOCUS GX-750. It's 750W - Paired with Ryzen 7 5800X is recommended to 650W PSU by Nvidia.

In stress test the GPU gets up to 220W and the CPU up to 120W - So It should be okay.

I did a clean Windows install, but there is still some MB software that I don't need. I tried to uninstall everything I might not need and I will try it now.

I disabled as much non-microsoft service in msconfig, hopefully that might help.

🤔And you have updated the bios and operating system? If so, and you are sure its not whatever anti-virus program you are using causing it for instance, then the only thing I can think right now is to simply start disabling everything you don't need. If its something that came with the motherboard, disable it. I recall this ones dudes computer could not get past the splash screen until he disabled wifi in the bios, so you never know. Any of those windows services you don't need, disable it, assuming you haven't already tried it. These are the things I disabled. I call it my purge list. It solved the stuttering in all my games and my whole computer runs a ton faster.

  • 3 weeks later...

Alright, so for the last few weeks I have been playing with a lot of settings in windows and BIOS and it seems its finally fixed.
On 7th of April there was a new BIOS update for my MB and it seems that fixed it.

So thanks everyone for help.
