Hi guys, I got a problem. My Laptop is getting pretty warm while doing basic tasks like web browsing or office work. The temps are always in the 55 to 65 degree C range. It is undervolted and the temps were fine like 2 weeks ago. I dont know what caused it and even if it is some sort of thermal issue, it shouldnt be this bad while web browsing right?.

My specs:

Dell G7 7790 (2019 Model)

Intel Core I5 9300h with 0.14V undervolt on Core and cache

8GB DDR4 2666Mhz

Rtx 2060 Mobile

Thanks in advance for any help.

laptops usuallt get kinda hot because they want to keep the noise of than fan down. 65c is only kinda warm and will not damage your laptop so dell is perfectly happy to keep your laptop at that temperature if that means that the fan speed/noise is lower. if you really want low temperature, change the fan speed to something higher

That's 100% acceptable for laptops. Is it possible that the ambient temperature changed causing this?

Main: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D, Nvidia GTX 1080 Ti, 16 GB 4400 MHz DDR4 Linux - Fedora

Welcome to the LTT forums! Chances are, it's simply time for spring cleaning and a healthy dose of thermal paste. It's probably full of dust and the 9300h being a generation and soon 2 generation old sku, even if you were using it lightly, it is probably rather dusty in the back of your machine.

Yeah thats probably not a bad idea. But do you know if opening the laptop up and repasting it voids my warranty? I think i still have warranty but im not quite sure.

Probably. The temperature isnt that alarming, but it does piss me off that my keyboard area gets noticably warm while im doing basically nothing.

All these tips above will help laptops don't breath well and companies keep fans low. Most have a way to pick his speed cleaning it is good idea, is check warranty usually is fine but some spots they say no and usually have stickers on them . also think about a laptop cooler fan base usually relatively cheap I use one and although mine doesnt get hit it does help a few degrees
