hello once again dear community ❤️

so i gave in to the itch and started buying stuff for a new system + setup ^^ all black, no rgb this time

i guess i could have picked a better time to do so, but it is what it is, so here we go again...

stuff i already got:

CASE: Seasonic Syncro Q704 & 850w PSU

MOBO: MSI X570 Unify

RAM: 4x8 Crucial Ballistix @3600 c16

COOLER: Arctic Liquid Freezer 360

& some peripherals (Ironclaw, K100, Rode NT USB, SecretLab Chair...)

stuff i will definetly get:

some 5120x1440 super ultra wide display (most likely the Odyssey G9 or the C49RG94SSU)

As i have, as on my last build, some modding to do the final assembly will most likely take place somewhere in late Q2 to Q3 so i thought i'll ask your opinion for some components

usecase will mostly be gaming (sightseeing & the occasional FPS), some CAD work (for that i'll have a seperate screen as i think a SUW-display won't be best), and i want to dip my toes into music (voice recording mainly as i want to revive my singing hobby) so all in all nothing critical

what would you get in terms of:

CPU?

i thought about a 5600X, but lately i found some "used" 5800X for 350-370€ so 50-70 more than the 5600X (~300€)... as used as those can be after that short time

are the ~70€ more justified for the gain?

i always felt the 5800X was a bad value, but only due to the price

GPU?

well, PRICE ASIDE as it's fucked atm

3080? 3090? 6900XT? or wait for 3080Ti? to game on a 5120x1440 display (sightseeing maxed or FPS optimised for frames) i don't think i should go any lower... right?

I asked the folks at Seasonic if their Syncro Connect 850W was up to the task of driving the high end cards, and was told that they tested 6900XT & 3090 without any issues

STORAGE?

i already have a couple of Crucial P1s that i plan to carry over, but, given the board, i really want to get a Gen4 ssd as a boot drive. any recommendations?

well, as soon as i start modding / building i will as usual start a buildlog thread

any input is greatly appriciated

one last thing:

I AM AWARE THAT IT'S A SHITTY TIME TO BUILD & THAT SOME HW CHOICES ARE NOT THE MOST REASONABLE ^^

i went through some pretty rough time over the last 4-5 years, that weren't up to my control and finally got my life together once again, so i'm treating myself to a new system & workspace

have a good one y'all

stay safe and healthy

My Rig / Buildlogs:  ❄️ SNOWFLAKE ❄️ FROSTBITE ❄️

Graphics Card: Gigabyte Aorus 2080super Waterforce    Case: Corsair 500D   PSU: Corsair HX850i

if you get a 5600x, the 3070 is a good pairing, with some ram with Samsung b dies, if you get a 5800x, the 3080 is a very good pairing, and should probably get some 3600mhz ram, and then, if you have enough, the 5900x and or 5950x and the 3090 is a insanely strong pairing that will crush 4k gaming, and if you are to use the most powerful pairing, use 4200mhz ram or 4600hz for some I n s a n e performance

Don’t take everything I say seriously

take it with a grain of s a l t

Thanks for your input

The 3070 is out as I don't think it can do 5120x1440 high fps for shooters nor 60+ for maxed out sightseeing.

At that resolution the cpu should be less of a concern IMO as the system gets heavily gpu bound. 5900 & 5950 are out as I definetly dont need that many cores. The 5800 is worth a consideration only because I could get it fairly cheap used.

Honestly I dont think anything above a maximum of 4000mhz ram makes any sense what so ever, as you have to be lucky to get the IF clock up to 2000. I already settled for 3600. Also b-die is only worth it if you are going to OC IMO. The Rev. E in those crucials should serve me well as a "Set and forget" option.
