This could be referring to that fact you may need to update the BIOS on that motherboard so it supports Ryzen 5000 series.

The Hyper 212 Evo is more than enough for your 5600x. It doesn't pull a lot of power. I'd say at 100% utilization it will stay under 65C while still being pretty quiet.

Edit: for the GPU, just using the 1050ti while you wait for prices to come down at least a bit would be your best option. GPU prices are through the roof, so if you can get by for a while then you should.

Okay, I think this link should work.

The short version is pcpartpicker says there are some issues with this build. I've already purchased the CPU so I'd like help picking parts. If a part isn't listed, I have those already, except the CPU for reference purposes. I have 600 or so left to pick the rest of the parts I need. I prefer to use air cooling, even using a AIO is iffy to me, I've never even touched one before, so if I can get by with some sort of heatsink/fan combo I'd like that. I'll list my budget gpu just so there is a reference if needed.

This is my psu as well, although I don't think it's super important.

Recommendations: Lian Li 205m (sleek, pretty decent airflow for a non-mesh front panel and cheap), i5-10400f (Ryzen 5 3600 performance, 20% cheaper), Arctic P14 PWM fans, Logitech g305.

Yeah, for sure. Do you think I should try and find another MOBO?

Do you need a hyper 212 when the stock cooler is good enough? idk, if you are going to but a $30 cooler, might as well just stick with stock.

Psu is good, would step it up to 750 though for future upgrades. You can upgrade the motherboard to be compatible without the cpu in the socket pretty sure, would look through manual before buying to check though. https://www.newegg.com/corsair-cx-series-cx750m-750w/p/N82E16817139051

Motherboard is a bit premium for just a 5600x, imo

It really depends on your needs. I think for most people X570 is a bit overkill for just a gaming system, so B550 is fine. If you're worried about updating your BIOS, it's not hard. With this motherboard, you don't need an older CPU to update it since it has a feature called Q-Flash Plus (basically allows you to update your BIOS without having to boot), so you just get a flash drive with the new BIOS version on it and click the button on the rear IO.

You may not even need to update the BIOS, some B550 boards come Ryzen 5000 ready, but if it doesn't boot that may be why.

The more I learn, the more I realise I don't actually know anything.

I think I'm gonna change to a Gigabyte X570 Gaming X. It's cheaper. But I'll have to do some research on flashing bios. I've not done that before.

That's the cpu I bought, it's
zen 2 so I'm unsure why I have to flash either way.

go for b550. the x570 gaming x is a much worse motherboard.

also, hyper 212 black edition is much better than the evo.

Oh yeah, overkill unless it's cheaper in which case go for it. X570 boards have been out longer, so it's more likely they'd be sold with an older BIOS version on it. I have personally updated a BIOS for a friend and it's really not hard. You just HAVE to make sure it doesn't lose power for whatever reason.

Yeah, it's about 30 bucks cheaper. and apparently it works with zen 2 processors which the b550 doesn't. https://techedged.com/b550-vs-x570/

AMD's naming is a bit confusing. Zen is Ryzen 1000 series, Zen+ is Ryzen 2000 series, Zen 2 is 3000 series and Zen 3 is 5000 series. The 3600x is Zen 2 so you're good.

3600mhz ram is ideal if not at a big premium, it's only $3 more so worth buying: https://pcpartpicker.com/product/n6RgXL/gskill-ripjaws-v-16-gb-2-x-8-gb-ddr4-3600-memory-f4-3600c18d-16gvk

Alright, good call. Does it work with a x570 x? That's what I'll probably buy.

Thanks to everyone who posted, I appreciate the speedy help! I decided I'm going to keep the Ryzen 5 3600z that I bought by mistake, it's more powerful than my cuirrent cpu and I don't feel like sending it back and waiting.
