Should i open my 1 year old gpu

So i've been wondering for about a week now on if i should open my gpu because when i opened it for a good cleaning i saw that the gpu as a whole had a lot of dust on the fans and inside it, i blew it with a can of air and a lot of dust did come out and i was wondering if i should open it to repaste and deep clean it.

 

The gpu is an asus tuf rtx2060 that has been in use for about a year, because of the frankly shit cooler on it it has spent a lot of its time on 70-82C.

 

The main thing im worried about is voiding the warranty in case the gpu decides to prank me and die on me while its under warranty but the manufacturer then deciding it doesn't want to help me because they can see that i broke the paper seal on one of the coolers screws, should i not open the gpu just for the fact that then asus could basically say "fuck you we wont help" in case it decides to die on me or should i just open it worry about it breaking if it happens?

If it's under warranty, I usually want to keep it that way. GPUs are expensive, if it magically dies one day, you can just ship it in and get a replacement. Once it's out of its warranty period though, go wild.

 

You shouldn't have any problems with thermal paste drying out after only a year, but if you want to play around with it, give it a try, you might get some better cooling.

You talk in really odd circles.

 

First, there is no reason to open a year old GPU. Paste won't be needing  a "refresh" at this point.

 

Second, those temps are normal for a high performance GPU under load.

 

Third, if there is a risk of voidiing warranty.... that's your call, not some forum on the internet.

Opening the card doesn't void the warranty. Those stickers on the screws saying if they are removed will void the warranty aren't even legal

I mean, for most dust you can use pressurized air to get most of it out. Just put it between the fan blades and in 3 different places on each fan so it can blow the dust from most of the heatsink.

 

I wouldn't recommend repasting the GPU since it's very highly unlikely the paste has dried up after just a year. When you've had the GPU long enough that it's no longer under warranty is when the paste could have dried up.

The more I learn, the more I realise I don't actually know anything. 

 

Recommendations: Lian Li 205m (sleek, pretty decent airflow for a non-mesh front panel and cheap), i5-10400f (Ryzen 5 3600 performance, 20% cheaper), Arctic P14 PWM fans, Logitech g305.
