Good afternoon people,

I've had this exact problem for a while now, and all the troubleshooting that I've tried hasn't fixed it. If I try to look for this exact issue online, I can't find anything the same as my issue. To sum it up in a decently understandable way, sometimes when I'm even just watching some Youtube videos for example, my pc sort of freezes. It's a weird freeze, since I can still click on things, but I can't close anything anymore, nothing that I click on is responsive, and my whole pc kind of just stops working. I have to manually force shutdown the system, because shutdown via windows doesn't work since it doesnt respond to that.

I tried to make a video of the situation as you can see down below, but it's still hard to make something out of it. Please let me know if anyone has any idea what this can be.

I've swapped CPU's and the issue remained. I've switched to a higher wattage psu but the issue remained. I have not changed the ram, but I've run multiple ram tests, and it doesn't say that any of the sticks is faulty, I have underclocked the sticks from their original xmp 3000 to 2866. All I can still think of is that the gpu might be faulty, but I can easily have hours long game sessions with friends without any problems. It only really happens when I'm literally watching videos. Also during stress tests it doesnt crash. It's a very weird thing.

Don't mind the audio, it's me speaking Dutch to a friend 😜 It's basically me explaining that stuff doesn't open anymore, but I can still hear my video, I can still move my mouse etc. The processes in task manager don't move even a single bit tho, it's literally my pc thats just frozen. If I look in the Windows log files to see if it came up with an error there is nothing.

Thank you for your help in advance. I'm very lost at what to do, so any help is much appreciated.

What is your current Nvidia driver version? That -1% GPU usage error is known to be an issue to many people with the new, really shitty 461.72 driver update for the new RTX 3060, and it isnt really a Game Ready driver but more like a Miner Ready driver. Have you tried reverting to the previous version 461.40? That fixed almost all of my issues i had with the 461.72 one

I have the 2060 tho, not a 3060.

Yeah, that doesn't matter at all though.

I can revert back, see if that helps.

Please do.. btw, someone else also has this problem on this forum right now too

just so you dont feel like you're the only one with this issue

Okay, I just reverted back my drivers and got rid of the old ones with ddu. Now we wait and see if it happens again. If this fixed it, I'm gonna be so happy. I've struggled with this for so long now it feels like.

Nice, feel free to reply to this anytime. (please reply to this comment specifically, so i get the notification)

So, it just happened again. I checked and I am on 461.40. Any other ideas?

Damn it... have you tried disabling XMP completely? Because the timings could be the cause of this aswell, not just the clock itself... And also, RAM modules are really fuckey these days, since they push high clocks. Even my RAM is having problems pushing tight timings and 3000mhz so i just decided to keep it at 2133mhz, because i couldn't be bothered anymore.

Edit: did you read @wONKEyeYEs 's reply?

It will, but by about 6-8 FPS, its also very difficult to notice and i adjusted to it quickly..

I'll try and keep it at 2133.

Yup, but make sure you disable the XMP profile, dont just downclock the RAM to 2133mhz.

okay couple of things I'm noticing that could contribute to this...

Two monitors... remove one.

Discord. Also remove.

Then DDU again,  reset CMOS,  load optimized settings if it asks you,  if not don't change anything in BIOS anyway.

Install Nvidia drivers.

Recommend 460.89 STUDIO DRIVERS.

Unless you have a 3060 then you'll just have to try the 'oldest' drivers.

I get all the steps, why should I remove a monitor? It reads them both fine. I might be very stupid for asking, but just making sure

Because Nvidia drivers are known to be buggy with multi monitor setups, so just another thing to remove from equation.

Do you want me to fully remove it from my setup? I don’t fully get what you mean. Remove it from my setup fully, or only during this troubleshoot?

Yep just unplug it for now for trouble shooting

I have been encountering the exactly same problem for like a week or more now, it suddenly just appared and froze my system like 3 or 4 times now already. I can sometimes open task manager but i just doesnt refresh, then cant close it. If i try to right click and refresh that stays there on monitor and those kind of things... So frustrating, I even freshly installed OS from a different issue but today it happened again after 4 days of it being good -.- Have you or anyone else found a fix yet? I dont think it's my PC at flaw here if there is an exact issue happening to others...

One thing I’ve done is I stopped using my rams xmp profile. For now it has worked, which is a godsend. I’ve done everything there is to troubleshoot before this, so that this worked is amazing. Besides this, remove your gpu drivers with ddu, and roll back to like 4 versions before, that might also do something. Let me know how it goes.

Btw, did you run memtest86? So if you got an error do you think its a problem with the XMP profile or was it reinstalling gpu drivers that seemed to fix the problem? Sorry for bothering you more.

I did, and it said it couldnt find a problem with any of the modules. Sometimes Ram is just known for having problems with running at the speed it was clocked at. And you're not bothering, don't worry lol

Alright, thanks for the info, im just really stressed cuz if I wont find any problem with Ram im litteraly lost on what to do next. My build is maybe 6 months old and I dont want to spend all my money I saved on stupid parts again, especially cuz the prices are increasing 😞

I know the feeling. If you know that nothing could have been damaged, try the drivers and the ram xmp disable and see how it goes. I got a new PSU, and the problem persisted, even got a cpu upgrade which I was planning to get for a bit of time hoping it would fix, but it didn't. So I'm sure it's drivers or ram. See how it goes and let me know!

Wow thanks alot for listing the PSU and CPU, then its higely unlikekly that these two are causing problems. I have also ran Cinebench and Userbenchmark countless times and couldnt find anything unusal, not with temps or performance. Btw what Ram are you using? I have g.skill trident z royal 3600, that I enjoyed very much until now (if there is a problem with them that will change ofc haha). I will test them when I will have some more free time, and after I will try disabling XMP and roll back graphic drivers.

I’m only using 3000mhz ram, Ballistix 16GB Cl15. Im

hoping they’re the problem and I can grab some new ones lol
