Hey everyone

I don't know why but my laptop prefers to thermal throttle rather than turning it's fans at 100% speed.

When talking about a desktop fan, the fan runs at 100% if only red and black are connected.

So I was wondering, if I connected the other two wires with a tiny dipswitch and thus only having the red and black wires connected, will it cause the fans to run at 100%?

Thanks in advance

also: sorry for the bad English :)

Have you tried software like SpeedFan, instead of physically changing things?

There are other software solutions too.

Yup, I tried mutliple programs, none can change the speeds.
It seems like the user can't change it through software.

I also checked my BIOS, nothing there about fans.

This physical change is my last resort. xD

What is the model of the laptop?

You may have a BIOS option for the fan profile.

It reminds me of what happened with my mother's laptop,

She bought a brand new HP laptop,it was overheating - she sent it for RMA.

HP noticed it,but could not find the cause so they replaced almost all of the components hoping it will solve the problem.

Now when she got it back it was overheating again, she brought it to me to diagnose it.

All along the problem was the fan profile in the BIOS that tends to disable the fans but a bug prevents it from turning on afterwards,

I changed the fan profile to keep the fans always on and it solved the problem.

Now days manufacturers prefer looks and quietness over functionality.

I have an  Acer Aspire V5-573G-54218G50aii

I've searched the BIOS for it but there are one options about fan speed what soever.

I bought it at least 5 years ago so unfortunately RMA isn't really an option.

Seems like my laptop is a prime example lol

Yupp, I've tried this aswell.

It helped but it's still not good enough.

Did you clean the vents?,

I was shocked at how much it can impact thermals when i did it to my laptop.

It went from 100C to 67C under full load just from cleaning the vents of the laptop.

Yup, about two weeks ago I cleaned it with compressed air, it's pretty clean now.

So is it safe then to try this or might it just fry my laptop?

Also if it is possible, would it be safe to turn the switch while my laptop is powered on?

So, two wires are 12V and ground. Motherboard controls fan based on voltage it supplies to fan. You would need to connect fan directly to power supply in order to bypass mobo controls. Just having switch won't change how much voltage mobo is supplying to it.
