Can I use the camera sensor...?

So I've got this samsung s3 that has shit the bed, and I was curious to see if I could use the camera sensor for anything? Like is there after market stuff I could plug it into for functionality? I've got no idea, and it would be cool if you could plug it in with some USB adapter tool thing to use as a PC webcam.

 

The sensor is from a Samsung Galaxy S3. 

 

Any feedback/assistance is welcome.
