I just rebuild and deep cleaned my computer and switched to a new GPU, I removed the old thermal paste and used what left from my old thermal paste which I'm not sure was enough.

I checked the thermals (using CPUID HWMonitor) and the CPU idle on 30-40 Celsius but with random spikes to the package or one of the 4 cores to 50-60 degrees.

I feel this is not normal but I'm not sure if it's related to the thermal paste.

I use Kraken X63 as the cooler and Noctua 4 years old thermal paste (newly applied though).

Would appreciate any help.

Modern chips overclock themselves, sometimes for only fractions of a second.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

Life is like a bowl of chocolates: there are all these little crinkly paper cups everywhere.

Chip is i7-7700k, not that modern and I don't remember that before the rebuild.

Modern enough for that.  New gpu could have the feature though.  60c isn’t dangerous though, if that helps, even by old school reckoning.

I just commented on your topic about the GPU, it might be the thermal paste or your case thermals, where did you put your case? Did you overclock you CPU at all?

Case is on the same place for the last 2 years, on my table, flat hard surface.

CPU (i7-7700k) is auto OC (what Intel calls "Max Turbo Frequency") 4.50 GHz.

XMP profile as well.
