oh shoot, yeah that's well knackered. Sorry for your loss 馃槥

The best replacement... might just be another 980. It seems it's currently right at the point where the GPU price curve gets out of control; anything newer like a 1060 even (which isn't much faster) is going for extreme markup on Ebay.

Recently i was playing tf2 i got a random lag spike then not very long after that my computer shuts off everything was working normal but not displaying a picture it was alao giving a burning smell upon further inspection ive determine its the gpu but i don't know if its bad or if it can be saved?聽

Gtx 980 16gb ram plenty of cooling dont play very many games 9 times out of 10 its just more tf2 other than that it just sits there downloading tv shows etc

the thermal paste looks scorched in the corner, that's definitely not right. I agree, repaste it. And while the card is in pieces, check the board carefully for any other sign of heat damage.

Vertical picture of front: bottom right, when you clean that off, it looks like something could have scorched there on the board...

Sometimes things just die. They don't always have to be old.

On the plus side you can post the burnt out one on eBay and probably get more for it than ever before.
