Cannot paste image in editor

Browser, version and OS: Chrome Windows 10

 

Steps to reproduce/what were you doing before it happened?

finish typing a message in editor, try to paste image from clipboard (screenshot)

nothing would happen, right click and paste wouldn't do anything

have to refresh the page to be able to paste image (and re-type the message sometimes, it's not cached)

only 1 LTT tab open, in DM when this last occurred, but it has occurred in multiple places such as posting SU from profile

 

What did you expect to happen?

Happened on mobile too, on chrome.

 

Edit: works now, at least on mobile.

Next time it happens, can you open the dev tools (f12) to the console tab, and see if anything is logged there, and also try pasting again to see if that causes any more logs.

If you could expand the exceptions (especially the first ones that are just uncaught e, but the NOT_INIT_ERR may be useful too), that would be helpful - the NOT_INIT_ERR logs are the direct issue but I believe they're being used by the previous ones.

Thanks. I've managed to reproduce it now (the behaviour is the same, although I'm not getting the same logs), and I've reported it to IPS. However, it is a fairly fundamental issue with the way JS works with dialogs and stuff, so I don't know how likely it is to be fixed; certainly not until the next IPS update (coming "spring", I'm reading more like August).

 

The issue is triggered if you open a dialog containing an editor (eg report, status update), then try to paste an image in an editor not in the dialog. You should be able to work around it for now by refreshing the page after closing a dialog. If you do find other places where this is happening, please do let me know.

in this instance, it happened in DM, which isnt a dialog right?

No, but the screenshot of the logs is showing the same symptoms, and I wasn't able to reproduce it just using the messenger - I had to open some other dialog to trigger it. Did you definitely not open any dialogs at any time while using the messenger?

Actually no you're probably right - just using the messenger can cause that behaviour with the logs, but doesn't necessarily cause issues with uploading. It may still be the same root cause, but I'm not sure how to trigger it.

in that tab, perhaps while viewing a photo before replying to the message

i think i have found a way to repeat it

 

in DM, open the editor, then edit a post, but cancel the edit

then paste image in the editor, it should trigger the error

 

edit: it works when i tried it here too

Thanks, that's really helpful. I've reported that repro to IPS, although given that they haven't replied to the original ticket from 3 weeks ago I don't have high hopes for a prompt resolution.
