EDIT

My system is now working properly, all broken stuff has been RMA.

I guess I am an unlucky guy, I got this message from NCIX:

Quote

Thank you for contacting NCIX tech support. I've checked into your RMAs, and the Trident ram is backordered. We are waiting for more to come. The Corsair SSD appears to be discontinued now, so what I can do is give you a refund so that you may select some other RAM and SSD. If that is ok with you, please let me know.Thank you.

I think the 2400 is too hard on my CPU, I guess I should switch to 1600 quad channel... what you guys think?

Since I only have 1 now and the corsair GTX appears to be discontinued, i'm looking for a very good SSD to make raid0 with my corsair gtx without to much bottleneck..

---------------------------------------------------------

So I bought my brand new overpower gaming station

I prefer to buy corsair, asus and other well known brands so I don't have to RMA all my stuff...

I build my computer since 10+ years and normally I find answer to my questions pretty easily on google but this time I got THAT bug, let me explain to you guys...

System spec:

CPU; Intel Core i7 3930k

Mobo; Asus ROG Rampage IV extreme

RAM : G.Skill TridentX F3-2400 Quad Chan 32gb

Video : GTX titan

SSDs : Corsair neutron GTX

PSU : Corsair HX 1000 modular

So yea, basically I build my computer like anybody would normally do, when all the setup is done I boot, update my bios , put my 2 ssds to raid 0 and install windows.

Let's the fun begin... Oh lord...

At first 1 ram stick was not working properly ( I had only 24gb instead of 32gb.. ), I knew there was 3 possible reasons, I booted my computer with each stick separately 1 by 1, finally the 4th stick was not working at all. So I wrote a message to ncix and sent back my ram to RMA.

I install some corsair triple channel ram I had on a desk from my previous setup, nothing too fancy ,everything is working properly this time. I finish to install all the drivers and stuff. Everything is working fine until 5 or 6 hours later. BAM the screen become multicolor and freeze. I press restart and my second SSD had "error occured" status in post screen where the motherboard do the S.M.A.R.T check I think, as you know raid0 cant be restored easily so I had to reinstall windows again. Then 5-6 hours later SAME problem SAME crash.... OKAY. I'm a clever dude I just switch my ssd and I think to myself If the "error occured" status stay on slot 2 the problem could be a lot of things but if in the next 5-6 hours when the crash pop again the error is now on slot 1 I will know that the ssd could be broken. Everything went as expected, 5 to 6 hours later, "error occured" on slot 1 instead of 2, I uninstall the ssd and send it to RMA.

Now im running my windows on a single corsair neutron gtx on AHCI mode, the only one that never had "error occured" or whatever problem. Everything went super smooth for the first 2-3 days. But tonight gentlemen, I had the same multicolor crash + freeze, I was not even using the computer. It was on desktop wallpaper and I was listening to TV in the other room, when I came back I found the multicolor screen and I had to restart the computer. The drive status was Healthy, no error occurred from S.M.A.R.T.

To be honest I have no idea what is happening, I'm pretty sure its not a cpu problem, the cpu wouldnt scrap my whole partition. Could it be a motherboard problem? more like a problem inside the intel controller for the sata 6gb port or something like that? The part that bug me is the crash part, why would my computer crash for no reason every X hours steadily? I'm 100% sure it's not a heat problem i'm monitoring the heat very closely and everything is perfectly fine.

I think that ssd uses sandforce controller which suck and secondly a smart check wont work with the ssd you need to use the ssds softare to check them there a tottaly diffrent enity than a mech harddrive which smart is made for. When you get your system up and ruuning let me know what your gaming performance is with that 3930k I was going to go that route but i heard its bad for gaming let me know your results I mena i know there would no benefiet to gaming but i need it for other purposes and would rather just sell my current gaming system and and have one not 2 lol.

hmm I guess I could try my ssd inside a 3gb/s sata port instead of the 2 6gb/s , I will lose some performance but it will be a good test indeed.

You actually have 4 6gb/s ports, one is running of the Intel chipset and the other is the ASMedia.

The controller is the new LAMD  controller afaik http://www.corsair.com/neutron

Also the 3930k is a beast honestly, normally I get the extreme version for all my setup, but this time the performance increase between the 3930k and  the 3970x  is tiny, almost ridiculous for the 500 bucks more you will spend for the extreme version. I always spend the extra $$ to get the "top of the food chain" rig, but in my opinion this time the extreme version is not worth it.  The ivy bridge -e  will be out in Q3 2013 (september, unless something goes horribly wrong), but Intel don't plan huge amount of power increase with it, it's all about efficiency now (haswell included). Honestly buddy I think the 3930k will be a great deal during the summer with the price cut (haswell will be out  June 4)

There were some benchmarks that showed that the ASMedia 6gb/s port is just as fast as the intel 3gb/s and the intel will have a bit lower lantency

I'm running on Intel Sata 6gb/s 02 this morning, if the setup crash in the next few days I will try the 3gb/s and see what's up.

The time is against me now, I have 30 days of express RMA with ncix, I must find what is wrong before the deadline

  • 2 weeks later...

My system is stable since the last install.

I got a reply from NCIX about my RMA,  this is just unbelievable how unlucky I am with this computer...

backorder ram and discontinued ssd...seriously?  -_-

I'm pretty confortable to wait for the RAM, but I have no idea at all what to get instead of the  corsair neutron GTX, since I have already 1 neutron gtx and I want to go raid0 I need something very good to avoid bottleneck.

you guys got some suggestions?

I am running a fairly similar system, what version of Windows you running?

Check your BIOS version.

I haven't built a new computer in over 10 years before this one also, and I was unimpressed that none of the features of my ASUS P9X79 Deluxe seemed to work any better than than my aging 10 year old ASUS 775 board.

Flashed a version 7 generation newer than the board shipped with and it was a different animal. ASUS updated the BIOS 7 times since they made the board, I bought it, and assembled a system with it.Things do sometimes sit on shelves.

Than Windows 8 came along and needed .CAP formatted BIOS extensions to work right.

Don't try to troubleshoot the  new system, troubleshoot the parts. If you got a few different problems to find you may not find it the all important RMA window.

If you got the latest BIOS shipped with the board I would make sure the CPU/board combo is solid first(because that is where all the money went).

I would start buy running 2  sticks of proven memory, the board and a old hard drive, all at stock clocks first, with a fresh Windows install and see if it is stable .If not, Its something in the board.

I would test the SSD,s in another system that is stable, just remove all your drives/SSDs, install the new suspected SSD and do a clean install, if that machine crashes you know its the SSD.

Once you get the good and bad parts Identified , RMA the bad ones. Start adding parts into the stable.

Also are you trying to go straight to 2400 MHz on the memory, with a XMP profile? Most Sandy bridge-E chips are barely able to get 2133MHz stable without a little tuning( some won't ever do it stable, silicone lottery!!)

Yea the new system is extremely stable, I think I found all the broken pieces and they are now RMA. I tryed to go 2400 MHz directly without any modification yea, I tought the cpu was resistant enough to handle it.

You guys think I should go with  these one [x] instead ? They are 1600 Mhz only, but still quad channel. I think its a huge drop but if it's what it take to get my system working properly I will do what is necessary...

Well 1600mhz should be fine and there should be no noticeable drop in performance.

I got  16 Gb  of Crucial Elite 1866MHz  at 9-9-9-27 , but   they really won"t go much higher.

Looking back wish I would of went with their Low volt, Low profile 1600Mhz memory for the tighter timings, because 1866 isn't noticeable over 1600 with tighter timing, although I hear games respond to higher frequency more than tight  timings.

Get 2133 or 1866Mhz memory. You won't notice all of a performance boost past those speeds, if you are not running off the iGPU.

As for the SSD, get just about anything that's popular. I doubt most users will notice a difference between the crucial M4 and the Samsung 840 pro.
