PSU Overkill?

_CaLico_
I'm building a new system for my home office, general specs:
Ryzen 5 3600
B450
Gtx 1660 Super
16gb RAM (2x8)
m.2 500gb + 2T 7200rpm

Used a couple PSU calculators and got a maximum wattage of 300-350w.

I was planning on getting a decent 500w psu, maybe 550w..but a friend of mine offered me a spare Seasonic Core GC 650w with 1 year of use (still 6 of warranty left) almost for free.

I know its a good PSU but is it too much of an overkill?
This pc will most likely be on all day long, quite some time in idle or just using some light programs, and I'm a bit worried of power consumption during this time. Isnt power efficiency in such low loads (<10%) terrible?

power efficiency at low loads is bad yes, but it doesnt really matter that much. if your system is only using 50W and efficiency is 80%, then you are using ~63W from the wall. that will hardly make a difference. plus, going with a higher watt psu will make the psu run cooler and quieter so it will last even longer and not make noise. if it's that cheap, just take it.

efficiency is shyte... but power draw is also very low.

having that said... if you're getting a good deal on the seasonic, get the seasonic.

Thanks for the replies.

Yeah I guess if its around 80% on the low end its not that bad overall..I just didnt know what efficiency we where talking about since seasonic curve (as most others) dont show efficiency below 20% load, wasnt sure if it was around 50% or what lol

It won't be terrible, something around 70% at low loads.

Only the Titanium PSUs have good numbers at low loads.
