question about Aussie internet speed

SAVE-12-HK

seeing the avg broadband plans for 50ish mbps (prem for 100mbps) vs 1gb i am using....

is 50mbps acceptable? even my mobile states 42mbps

mainly for youtube / loading games for family of 4

should i get a good router for this slow speed? ( planning to buy ax58u)

Really depends on your needs, but like 1080p youtube is less than 5mbit and games normally use less than 1mbit, so its probably fine. Downloading files and updates and 4k streaming will use that connection fast though.

i only get 7mbps down because i live in a rural area and there is literally nothing better, but even it is very usable for everything you listed, even while working from home. Starlink is the only way i'm going to get better speeds.

Most people will get little benefit from the highest available plans (250mb, 1gb).

100mb down will be sufficient for most people.

As for a router, if you are sticking to a 100mb plan, it wont matter very much with router you get.

What is more important is how many devices in your household need to use the wifi simultaneously and what distance you want to cover.

Mesh options are great for homes that are a bit more spread out or where you want good coverage in your backyard for example. But a lot of it comes down to your house and how its laid out.
