AMD or intel?

RuJuRa

So I've got a few options to choose from (currently 4, but i've put up a listing for used parts). NEW r5 2600 (173€) or 3600 (219€) with b450 tomahawk (105€) or USED i5 8600k (oc to 5ghz) with z370 strix G mobo combined 300€ (been watercooled from start, currently in use, bought in 2019) or i7 8700 with an Asrocki h310m combined 240€ (little sketch as seller is the 2nd owner and we don't know what the cpu has taken). The rig will mostly be used for gaming but i'd also like to do some light streaming in the future. GPU is a 1070ti (bought it just before the mining boom, very happy about it) I will be using an aftermarket cooler so stock cooler is not needed. Which should I go for? Which is the best value? I know some of you here are much smarter than me and I'd like your approval before I make the big decision 😄 thanks in advance

b450 tomahawk

The b450 tomahawk isn't really good value compared to other B550 or even B450 motherboards, I would suggest picking another one if possible. As for the CPU don't get the 2600, it's not worth anywhere near 175 euros.

I don't think that's possible, I'd imagine you actually mean 5ghz?

Between the i7 8700/i5 8600k and ryzen 5 3600 I would go for the 3600 to be honest, especially when looking at future upgrades.

But do keep in mind that there are also other CPU's to consider like the 10400.

I'm going to recommend a i5-10400

It's basically a i7-8700 but a bit better, newer and cheaper

A 20 or 3600 is not going to preform better the a 8600k with a 6ghz clock in gaming. A 8700 might be a downgrade form a 8600k with that over clock. Keep your 8600k. You won the silicon lottery with that chip!

My primary system: Core I7 10700k, 32 gb Trident Z RGB ram@3200mhz, EVGA GTX 970 SSC (will upgrade), NZXT N7 Z490 motherboard (Black), Samsung 970 Evo plus 1TB SSD, NZXT C850 PSU, Hyper 212 EVO cooler (getting new water cooler soon), NZXT H510i case.

My secondary system: Core I7 4820k, 16 gb quad channel 1600mhz ram, GTX 780 reference, Asus PX79LE, SK Hynix GOLD s31 500gb SSD, some 10 yr old Cooler Master 750w psu, Hyper 212, old Cooler Master case.

Laptop: Lenovo l380 yoga I5 8250u, 8gb ram, 256gb ssd storage)

Sorry! I ment 5ghz not 6! That's probably only possible with liquid nitrogen or something...

I have never overclocked, but I was a little skeptical of a 4.3 ghz chip running at 6, even on water.

10400f + b460 PRO4
or
Ryzen 5 3600 + Decent B450/B550 board

geometry is hard
b550 > x570

Thanks for all the responses! I did mean 5ghz overclock on the 8600k not 6 and I am also seeing a trend that I should go with a new cpu instead of an used one. So I think I am going to go with a ryzen 3600 and im going to look for a nice b550 board to pare it with (if you have any suggestions, I'd be thankful). Thanks everyone!

True dat, I saw that it said 5ghz and I was like, woah, you have to buy a 10900k to get that for sure.

I am currently been eyeing for this upgrade myself as well. I think I would combine R5 3600 with b550 a-pro from MSI or B550M pro4 from AsRock.
