Hey, I am trying to eliminate highs and mids in particular from leaking out of my room into the hallway, I was looking at these two two inch (I couldn't find any three inch :/) foam panels to put next to my door as that is where the sound is going.

Which shape would be better for eliminating Highs, mids, and just sound overall?

Thanks

Then what will (on a fairly tight budget and can't be hiddeous)

First thing to consider is airgaps, any way for air to travel out of your room is a way for sound to travel out of your room. Soundproofing is expensive and conventional knowledge would say the most cost effective option is a second layer of drywall.

Now, is the sound mostly coming through your door or is it actually an issue through your walls? If just your door you can use a solid door or setup some moving blankets to help absorb sound at the door, if it's an issue with the room as a whole your cheapest option will be to hang up a couple of layers of moving blankets, now, obviously this isn't the most effective option but it is cheapest, like I said earlier conventional wisdom would dictate a second layer of drywall to try and limit the sound travelling through walls.

When I went to test where it was coming from, I heard nothing going through the wall. All the sound was coming from the hallway. Yes there is one of those holes at the bottom of the door. I got one of the weather strip things from an amazon seller that's sending them right now. I know that will help, but I might need a bit more

After all gaps on each side of the door are sealed (double layer of stripping) the next weak link is the door itself and the most effective option might be to buy a solid door as opposed to the common hollow core door yours probably is currently. If you don't feel like replacing the door you can always try hanging a few layers of moving blankets to see if that lowers the leakage enough, if not, then the door is next to go.

As said those products are designed to prevent reverberation and echo in a room itself and less for dampening sound from traveling into another area. If it is to be done properly the room will need to be taken back to the wood studs to add in sound dampening insulation and ideally a sound isolating drywall that has a polymer layer.

For a budget your best thing would be to hang a heavy weight curtain about 6 inches from the ajoining wall and to seal the door or to change it to an insulated exterior door which has a proper weather seal all around it.

Basically nothing. As others have suggested filling in gaps between gaps in doors etc will help but it wont help by much.

Preventing sound leakage is a very expensive task as it normally involves doing things which are only viable during construction of the building.

In every case on this forum where people are discussing sound proofing the best solution is to reduce the source. If thats a speaker get headphones, if thats someone talking you need to learn to shut up.
