Hi,

After finally acquiring the funds to build a high end pc I am now yet again wondering if I should wait a a few more months before I purchase? I had intended to purchase a 5900x and 3080 / 3070 but of course Covid 19, crypto, new manufacturing processes etc have raised prices and driven stock into the ground.

All the GPUs in the UK are sold out, like most places and AMD's 5900x is priced at a whopping £650 (if you can find it in stock) along with the 5800x priced at £420 - £450 (yet again, if you can find it).

Is there any hint or potential hope of pricing going back to reasonably inflated prices within the next few months? I expect to pay more than msrp, of course, since both Zen 5000 series and RTX 3000 series are relatively new but the current pricing is insane 😞

Hope this makes sense xD, i'm incredibly tired haha,

Thanks for the help, stay safe,

Lex

Is not some of this due to brexit as well?

from where I can see, AMD CPUs are decently stocked and priced. Maybe a little higher at places, unlike the GPU madness though.

GPUs will take a while, although Nvidia is working on making older generations of GPUs to come back... might not what you are looking for though.

Else the 3000 series ryzen for the cores can be good too, if you can find that for a good price, even if it's an generation older.

If it makes you feel any better, there's a lot of people in the same boat as you right now. For Nvidia GPUs, the bottleneck in the supply is right at the top. Samsung just can't make enough chips to supply Nvidia and all their partners. What they need now is time, for more people to slowly get the cards, so demand starts to trend down. Unfortunately, there isn't really any way to predict when that will happen.

Main PC:

AMD Ryzen 7 5800X • Noctua NH-D15 • MSI MAG B550 Tomahawk • 2x8GB G.skill Trident Z Neo 3600MHz CL16 • MSI VENTUS 3X GeForce RTX 3070 OC • Samsung 970 Evo 1TB • Samsung 860 Evo 1TB • Cosair iCUE 465X RGB • Corsair RMx 750W (White)

Peripherals/Other:

ASUS VG27AQ • G PRO K/DA • G502 Hero K/DA • G733 K/DA • G840 K/DA • Oculus Quest 2 • Nintendo Switch (Rev. 2)

Laptop (Dell XPS 13):

Intel Core i7-1195G7 • Intel Iris Xe Graphics • 16GB LPDDR4x 4267MHz • 512GB M.2 PCIe NVMe SSD • 13.4" OLED 3.5K InfinityEdge Display (3456x2160, 400nit, touch).

Got any questions about my system or peripherals? Feel free to tag me (@bellabichon) and I'll be happy to give you my two cents.

PSA: Posting a PCPartPicker list with no explanation isn't helpful for first-time builders :)

Brexit was going to be a huge deal, however it hasnt had that much of an affect.... yet. Ireland is trading with eu and we trade with ireland so prices have barley changed, hopefully brexit doesnt create another price hike anytime soon... AMD's 5900x is out of stock almost everywhere here and the 5800x is in stock in some places, i'm surprised elsewhere has good stock.

My original pc was going to contain the 3900x but the lowest price I can find it for is £400.... If I cant get hold of the 5900x its between the 3900x and 5800x and im not sure xD

Hoping the gpu madness levels out a little in the new few months, I really need a computer for my upcoming courses etc
