Driver question/do they lock unreleased cards?

I'm curious about gpu drivers and if they work for unreleased cards. Let's say I download the original drivers for the rtx 2080ti, on the driver page it will say it only works with the 2080ti, but will it also work with the 2080/2070/2060 or download 3080 drivers and try to use them on a 3060 or future 3050. On the driver page it will say it only works with the 2080ti or 3080 but technically all the cards in the lineup will use the same driver so I don't see why it wouldn't support future cards within the same lineup. Or do they lock the drivers from those cards and block them knowing someone could get an engineering sample and release early reviews?

I would say that all the cards use the same driver AFTER it has been built to support them.

If you're interested in a product please download and read the manual first.

Tried using a driver (adrenaline) for RX6700, thinking it would just be the same, it refuses to install on my RX580.
