1440p 144hz monitor or new PC?

Hi there, i have a decent pc, capable of running cs:go, R6 and minecraft at 144fps, and other more demanding games at 60fps so im considering upgrading to a 1440p 144hz monitor. I will pay in the region of £200 after i scour the internet for good deals. However, i also want to upgrade my PC to a ryzen 3700x, and with a motherboard and 16gb 3600mhz i plan to pay no more than £400. Which do you think i should do first?

Well, upgrading your gpu will mean you are future proofing your set up.

 

On the other hand, people underestimate the importance of a good monitor. 

 

Personally, I'd rather have something better now than maybe in the future. 

 

In other words, which will improve your experience now, and in the immediate future?

 

Whichever that is would be my choice.

at the moment, gpu upgrades are out of the question, the upgrade to the 3700x could help but we need to know your current specifications to help you decide

I have Xeon x5660, Gtx 1060 6gb, 32gb ddr4 1333mhz ram, intel 530 180gb ssd

I think I might go for monitor as I was thinking exactly the same. I can get a Samsung G5 odyssey for 200 now so might do that

The 3700x will cost around £290-£300. 16GB of 3600Mhz RAM will cost between £75 and £100, depending on the brand and specific part.

 

That's your £400 gone and you have no mobo yet.

 

I suggest a budget of £450-£500 for that CPU, RAM, and mobo. This would be my budget choice (I would probably push the budget to £500 and look at motherboards in the £100-£150 range, but that's just me:

I will be buying almost everything second hand, as i can save a ton of money. I've seen 3700x for £200 on ebay and i have buyer protection just in case.

1060 may not have enuff punch for AAA 1440p gaming...

no its not, i will probably put it down to 1080p or something like that. I just want to be able to play cs:go and minecraft and r6 better. I think im going to get the samsung g5 odyssey. What do you think about it? Im goin from a 1200p 60hz monitor with a tft panel so i think its a big jump.

A brand new screen I would aim for 144hz if the card can do that in most games, if not then I suggest 60hz or if the budget cannot do 144hz...
