looking at getting a 10gb network card and switch. WOuld there be any improvement

Improvement in what?

For file transfers over the LAN using a switch capable of 10Gbps on each port, you’d see an improvement. But more than 1 device on the LAN would need these multi-gig cards.

There will be no improvement in WAN transfers as your ISP locks you to 1Gbps and the most your AX11000 can go on the WAN port is 2.5Gbps.

will i need the switch to use the card

Of course! How else can both ends negotiate at 10Gbps? You’ll also need network cable that can attain such speeds.
