Any ways CPU, RAM or GPU are damage ?

yba49

I'm kicking myself over here... Came home and plugged my usb-c cable to my desktop and accidentally put it in the USB-A port instead of USB-C and the PC immediately shut off and turned back on again by itself. Did I shortcircuit my motherboard or power supply or what, any guesses? Is there any way to fix it myself or do I have to send it for maintenance?

If there is damage how can I check ?

Thanks for reading.

if the pc is still working it would generally mean you shorted out the usb port, so highly likely the port you used is damaged and can no longer be used

Thanks for the answer. I read that shorts in motherboards could also affect CPU, RAM and GPU. If everything work, is there a way to tell if something is damaged or partially damaged ? Are bench enough for that ?

Yes, I know, that seems dumb but usb c is actually smaller than usb a and can fit into it.

if it was a usb port on the motherboard there is a chance it could have damaged something, but boards now are built pretty well as to stop further damage. but if the pc is working and there are no obvious issues as in random crashing or sudden shutdowns then generally you should be ok. if you are concerned about cpu/gpu issues then run stress tests like AIDA64 and furmark to stress test system to check for instabilities. hope this helps
