Hi Folks,

Sorry that this is a rather basic question but what is the best thermal paste to use?  I have an HP ProBook 640 G1 (Intel i7 quad-core) which I have had from new (2015).  I would like to replace the thermal paste to give it a wee bit more oomph in its old age.

😉

Any help would be appreciated.

Kind regards

Any decent thermal paste would do. The best one i've had until now is "Thermal Grizzly Hydronaut" (expensive option). Other good options are "Arctic MX4" (value option), "Noctua NT-H1" or "NT-H2" (middle ground).

Realisticly the difference between the best and the worst thermal paste on the market is 5°C or so. The main important thing is to get a non-conductive one.

If someone did not use reason to reach their conclusion in the first place, you cannot use reason to convince them otherwise.

When I said 'basically nothing' liquid metal does better but it's conductive which means dangerous which means not worth the hassle at all

Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut is often considered the best.

That said, the delta between the best thermal paste and the worst is no more than a few degrees.

Corps aren't your friends. "Bottleneck calculators" are BS. Only suckers buy based on brand. It's your PC, do what makes you happy.  If your build meets your needs, you don't need anyone else to "rate" it for you. And talking about being part of a "master race" is cringe. Watch this space for further truths people need to hear.

I like Thermalright TFX, slightly better than Kryonaut extreme on paper.

Probably doesn't make much of a difference.

TF8 was slightly better than the original Kryonaut on paper.

Managed to find one stockist with Thermalright TFX.  2g for £11,99.  Does that sound reasonable?

Kind regards

I paid about 17 bucks for mine I think? I live in Canada. Right now I am on the fence.. Do I get a 12g tube of TF8 or do I get a 6.2g tube of TFX for the same price.. about 40 beaver bucks. Ill probably go with the TFX. Should last me another 2 years or so if I swap between different coolers like I used to.
