Hi guys, I am looking for some help, my friend just built his pc last week and i helped him pick some parts for his budget, he got the ryzen 5 3600 and i also have this cpu... but when we were playing minecraft he was getting ALOT higher fps than i was, we were playing stoneblock 2 modpack and i ws getting about 200 - 400 fps where his was double that. we tried everything, same settings too. we have very similar specs like 16gb ram, I have an x470 board he has a b450 and he has a temporary 660ti until i give him my 5600xt... does anyone know why i get lower fps? i remember this also happened with another friend who has an r5 3600 and rx 580 and in warzone he was getting 75 fps on quarry and i was getting 45...

What ram do you have? I have heard that some ram doesn't auto to the max frequency. Do a userbenchmark run and post the link here.

I have corsair vengeance pro rgb 2666mhz clocked to 3000mhz and he has the non rgb vengeance at 3200mhz and they are both set with the xmp in bios. we both are just doing the userbenchmarks now, thanks Latvian.

Can you send the link too? Also, it seems that his chip is boosting to 4.1ghz, as your is boosting to 3.9ghz, that is the only reason I can see rn why his cpu would be performing better

Your base freq for your ram is 2666: his is 3200. You are over clocking and he is not?

buy new ram

Better yet: swap memory modules with him for a day or 2, and see if it makes a difference

He said that he has set it to 3000mhz. Also in the Userbenchmark, his cpu is boosting to 3.9ghz, but his friends cpu is boosting to 4.1ghz

Well, the base freqs are different from what I can see. I still say to swap the ram for a day or 2 to see if it improves.

not possible to swap unfortunately as we live in different counties here in ireland, but yeah i got it set higher than the base frequency

OK, this is weird...

XMP profiles adjust the clocking of the ram automatically.

So, if the BASE FRQ is 2666, and its RUNNING at 3000, then it is OVERCLOCKED

Now, back to the thread: Try shutting off the XMP and see what happens.

no before turning on xmp the frequency sits at 2133, when xmp is turned on and set to auto it will go to 2666, but i have overclocked mine to 3000, what would you like me to do with it shut off, just test the same minecraft world to see if there is an fps difference at 2133mhz? i can do that no problem at all just confirming what you wanted me to do:)

MSI X470 GAMING PLUS MAX (MS-7B79) Performance Results - UserBenchmark here is the new one it did a little better...

hmm, now it clocked to 3.95ghz, on reddit some ppl have said that turning on MSI game mode would make it clock to 4.2ghz

Userbenchmark is worthless imo. Just use Cinebench r23 with HWmonitor 64. Run it in single and multi-core, and check the clockspeeds from hwmonitor while its running. My 3600 is garbage too and multi-core boost is max 3,95GHz.

Ye, it isn't the best, but to check overall performance, it can come in handy.

Correct. Try benchmarking with it off, as in get rid of all the overclocking, period.

Then, make sure all backround services that are not needed are stopped.
