For years I've been running with an idea. I've been trying to find a realistic way to run the Sims Complete collection on a phone. Mostly newer androids. I think it would be possible with the power that the Samsung can push out. But ARM is not x86 as we all know. But as Anthony showed us in one of the last videos with linux running on a phone, and that there are windows tablets out there, I know this can work.

>But Tarra, why not just buy a tablet

Some of us are broke right now. Plus, this is a little hobby I've been doing for many years. I'm considering building a WinPi from scratch getting all the parts from Microcenter.

I got pretty far with installing windows XP on Limbo on android but it crashed for some reason. I've not been able to figure it out (I'll post when I figure it out). It was almost fully installed.

So if Linus is reading the forums, or Anthony is, I would love to see yalls take on this. You don't even have to buy anything for this. Just use an existing phone you guys have around. I would suggest anything SG9^ so you can dex mode it.

If you need a copy of the Sims Complete collection I can give you a copy. The game is no longer in circulation so who really cares? Anyways. I'll be around.

I make videos about games and stuff.

Theoretically it is possible, the problem is getting it to work. Microsoft does have an ARM64 version of Windows, but they do not release it to the public, only to OEMs, so getting access to it is next to impossible. Therefore, any effort trying to get it installed on a phone cannot really happen, and thus the odds of it happen are pretty hard.

Not happening.

Even MacOS x versions require a native port.

Most Windows games are already hobbled by DirectX features not available on Linux. Add EA’s DRM scheme and the necessary CpU translation and OpenGL ES translation and your already down to 1/10th the speed.

If you need to do some Windows productivity on phone, I suggest you just use AnyDesk and have remote control to your home computer with it. And some sort of cloud service to easily migrate files to and from the remote system. It's super easy to setup and works great.

I don't think you'll ever be able to run full Windows locally on the phone.

I'd be down to try. I currently have a full Arch chroot install and have successfully installed and run XP with Limbo in the past, could try on both of those although I don't have high hopes of either one working.

Almost got Windows XP installed on my phone last night. It was looking for the C:\ drive but I had it set to a:\ and sense then I haven't been able to fix it right. I've seen a few people on youtube do it and I can't get it to work all of a sudden. Also I think a lot of it has to do with it needing to be touch screen.unknown.png

I already use Anydesk but it's not good to game on. I don't think it's impossible, think about how big a computer was and how big it is now. It's fully possible to run games like this now. Original Doom is on the Game boy and can be emulated in Dosbox on a phone. It's not that it's impossible, it's that we haven't tried it yet. We just have to find a way to make it function

I'll first try on the Arch chroot although I can almost guarantee that won't work, if not then I'll install XP and try there. Will keep you updated.

Same process as I always have. ISO from archive.org and just let it go through the install. Takes fucking forever but works.

Can send ISO and more info tomorrow but going to bed now lol

I think I messed up where it's supposed to go but I'm retrying windows XP again. I have a copy of it too.
archive.org? huh. Didn't think it'd be there. I'll retry on my end to see what I'm doing wrong. I think it's the a and c drive situation

It's pretty straight forward. I would just opening it like a zip file and installing it like that.
I do it all the time, if you need any help when making this run, let me know. I've literally done like 4 different videos on this game helping people install it.

Will try installing it on both the Arch chroot and XP VM and let you know how it goes.

Kelvin, what did you do to get it to install? I've been going in circles trying different things, do you have screenshots or something of the VM settings so I can do it right? It keeps crashing on my end no matter what I do.

Is the VM crashing when you start it or is it crashing during the install? The VM won't start with over 768MB (exactly 0.75GB, making me suspect it's an Android limitation of some sort) of RAM allocated.

I am currently at the installer for the game but it needs a product key.
