gpu recommendations please

herb

i have a home media pc that i want to turn into a lowend gaming pc. the cpu is an athlon II x4 640.

what would be a good gpu to pair with this cpu? i want good performance but not a cpu bottleneck

cost isn't super important but generally stay under $75

For $75 you're not going to get very "good performance" (imo, it's subjective somewhat) Unless you're playing CS:GO, or very light games, or aren't doing very GPU-intensive tasks. What do you want to do with it?

I am NOT a professional and a lot of the time what I'm saying is based on limited knowledge and experience. I'm going to be incorrect at times.

For that price, I'd say a used GTX 7050TI is your best bet, they typically go for around $75 on eBay nowadays.

Don't expect it to be a great gaming experience, it'll work, but you'll be pushing lowest settings in most games and may still not even hit that 60FPS mark unless you're playing competitive e-sports titles

Whatever is the best used option you can buy for $75, that's what you should get.

To expand here, the 750Ti is a good NVIDIA choice, but the R9 270 I've found going for around $75 on eBay as well, and that card has noticably better gaming performance provided you can power the card. If your PSU isn't rated for more than 400W, the AMD card may not quite work for you, but your mileage may vary. What wattage is your PSU? And does it have 8-pin for GPU's?

eBay, found some barely on the cusp of $75, some a tad over, generally good card but if I were you the R9 270 isn't sounding like a bad deal right now (might hackintosh with that shit)

In that case, the R9 270 looks to be your best bet, has more VRAM than the nvidia competitor at this price point and overall better cperformance

Here's one for $70 and free shipping

According to some online sources, it only pulls power from a 1x6-pin

the listing you provided me with is an oc card and physically it has 2 6 pins. the extra 6 pin could just be a backup in case it uses extra power but thats still 2 6 pins and i would need to use one of my adapters. i have no problem with adapting power cables but then i might run into over current protection and then my system will auto turn off.

if you have 400W you should be okay for that, push comes to shove the 750TI is still there for you
