What happens if you use 4 RAM Sticks on Dual Channel boards?

I built my machine early last year before the pandemic hit.
I actually built it for my job + gaming. I do a lot of work in VM's due to my job requiring me to do a lot of testing of software. My machine is as follows:
ASUS Crosshair Hero VIII - X570
AMD 3900
2x 16GB G.Skill Trident Z RGB @ 3600mhzGeforce 2070 Super
I am getting close to hitting my 32GB RAM limit as of this year now that I am fully working remote and I have been considering upgrading to 64GB of RAM.
I understand that the only real AMD Platforms that support Quad Channel memory would be the Threadrippers?
I was wondering what exactly would happen if I put another 2x 16GB G.Skill Trident Z sticks in this machine.
Would I lose the Dual-Channel memory speed improvement?
Thank you for any help you can provide.
It'll be fine. The ram just won't serve as quad-channel. It will serve as dual channel. each channel supports two ram slots.
