i've been thinking of doing this

1.thumb.jpg.84a82a92637ac430c4ed2e7f58501c1f.jpg

or

2.thumb.jpg.51f22abecb3146e197cf0e578e09bd96.jpg

+ i will be connecting my TV to the 1Gigabit Switch

will i be able to get a 10Gbps connection from my Storage PC (running windows 10 with shared drives, AHCI, NTFS, no raid config), Editing PC, and Gaming PC and 1 Gigabit on others??

My internet connection is 100Mbps.

Will the devices connected to the gigabit switch or the router directly be able to access the Storage PC at 1Gbps?

Should i do the 1st one or 2nd one (shown the in the pics above)

Any Help is Appreciated, Thank You!

hey! i know to use a computer

As long as you get a 10Gbps switch and network cards for the PCs that are compatible, you should have 10Gbps connectivity between the 3 PCs.

Yes, unless you set the network up to not allow it.

Honestly not sure, someone with more experience should be able to answer that.

what do i mean by that? i will be getting a 4 or 5 port 10 gigabit switch and some 10 gigabit NICs when ever i visit Singapore next time, those stuff are not in my country..... i will be getting a 16Port TP Link Gigabit Router and some cheap 300Mbps AP... all the wires will be CAT6 (except the wire that will be going to the TV [thats CAT5e] ), the 10Gbps needed computers will stay very near to each other and the switch (less than 5 meters for each pc, so i don't think CAT6 will be that bad for 10Gbps for my need)

Second one, router will still assign ips but you will have to manually change the page files for the 10gig connections (there's a great ltt video from many years back setting up 10gig network pc to pc)

Personally I would also connect the 10gig switch to the 1gig switch instead of the router to reduce router processing power directing traffic between the switches only to have the switches redirect traffic again. Just a recipe for higher latency.

There is another reason to use the second layout method:  continuous connectivity during router failure/restarts.  RARELY do switches go bad, and they will still be able to keep your local network up even when your router goes down.  This might sound like a rare occurrence, but you'd be surprised at how often you would benefit from that.

Also, not that you asked, but why is your wifi so far down he chain?  You would be better off putting the gaming PC DIRECTLY into the router (if you mean online gaming) and the wifi access point into the same switch as the storage PC (assuming you are using a smart tv / roku / firestick)

It must be true, I read it on the internet...

you mean the 100Mbps? that's like a very luxury high end thing in my country! even i, upgraded recently and what i had was 25Mbps internet!

very light fortnite (my ping is between 90-120msi have been playing with 150ms for a long time and that's not a huge deal bcz i play it for fun my pro gaming friends 🙂 ) + some Assassins Creed and Star Wars Games!

i will cheap out on a 10Gbps switch and i will be getting a 4 or 5 port switch! (but i will be upgrading after i finish all of my exams :-3 )

all the films i have downloaded are 720p or 1080p and some netflix (i will be locking it at 720p or 1080p), i think 300Mbps will handle it without any problem! + i will be using a Xiaomi Mi Box Android TV with a normal 4k TV...

You won't need to setup any second subnet for 10gbe here like that ltt video as all the 10g will be on the same subnet.

what switch are you getting? Id get that mikrotik 4 port sfp+ one, then connect the 1gbe port to your other switch.

that's good to know, is that due to the switch being the link point vs loop through nics directly?

If they are connected via a 10g switch which is left defaulted, they would be in the same L2 domain so they can communicate directly with each other. Else, If the PCs are directly connected and their second ports are connected to the 1gig switch you need to configure a separate subnet in order for Windows to know which interface to send traffic out.

Also in your first post, the "LAN" ports on consumer routers are bound to a switch chip which means as long as long as the devices are within the same subnet, it will have no performance hit on the router as the router's CPU is not handling it, instead the ASIC is.

No, I meant that your wifi access point is so far along the connection chain from your router.  Your router has four LAN ports, just hook it directly into the router rather than a switch.

It must be true, I read it on the internet...
