I got a new windows 10 pro key but it doesn't support upgrading

HyperLynx

The key i have for win 10 pro wont upgrade my version. How do I got about reinstalling windows with my new key?

Do I do it as normal and add a new key or is there something different? Will I have to do a complete fresh install?

Yes i've done that, but it runs into an error and after looking around and asking the company who supplied it they said the keys they have don't support upgrading

You can try upgrading it through DISM:

(elevated command prompt)

Dism /online /Set-Edition:Professional /AcceptEula /ProductKey:WMDGN-G9PQG-XVVXX-R3X43-63DFG

Replace the product key with yours

Just now, yaboistar said:

yeah for the reinstall just go through as normal and use that key when it asks for it, or reinstall, select windows 10 pro, select that you don't have a product key and then activate once the install is completed

So do a normal reinstall from my current os or uninstall it first?

You could try an inplace upgrade, but a clean install's the better option if dism won't let you upgrade.

I had the same problem once. You should contact the customer support from Microsoft and they can convert it. Then you can simply use it.

Just reinstall with the new key. There's no uninstall, just wipe and recreate the partitions.

Managed to do a clean wipe and and reinstall but now its says it cant activate because a windows 10 home was previously activated on the device... so i wont allow my win 10 pro to activate properly. It does say in the settings that my windows version is Windows 10 Pro however.
