why is steam doing this??

Go to solution Solved by dj_ripcord,

Steam doesn't consider updates part of the overall used storage calculation because it is expecting you to finish downloading the updates to complete your games. The updates files currently occupying space are temporary until the game completes updating.

Also, you have 1.79 TB free. Round up and its 1.8 TB. That's why it says you have 1.8 of 1.8 free.

I'm not sure what exactly about the screenshot is confusing to you? Can you add a bit more context?

Do you mean the 1.8 TB free, despite multiple gigabytes in use?

I'm also now not allowed to open steam via task bar

Did you mean the system tray and not the task bar?

Otherwise, run task manager so that you can kill the steam processes and restart steam to see if it fixes anything and if it doesn't, try to run a file check on each of the games installed on that drive to see if that changes anything.

Although, steam can be a bit wonky as it keeps dropping one of the drives I've set up and have to keep adding it back every once in a while.

im sorry,  but that doesn't make any sense, did you think this through...  they have 9GB of games and 460GB of "updates"...? Please explain, how?

For reference:

Where are my "updates"?

(yeah, there are none because that wouldn't make any sense, steam installs any updates automatically once they're downloaded,  plus the discrepancy between 10GB and *checks notes* 460GB is obvious)

yeah that also don't make sense?

They have half a TB of "updates" yet 1.8TB free of 1.8TB... lol.

Idk either seems like a bug, see screenshots above,  that's definitely not normal,  ie *where* even are these "updates"? 🤷‍♀️
