Dual cables on motherboard? Help?

So I’m replacing my cables in my pc with some custom braided cablemod cables and realized that there’s two slots for power on the motherboard?(top loft section) I believe these are called EPS connections right..? Anyway, I’m used to seeing only one slot from my last build and was curious why this second slot is here, since I’ll have the cables for it I’ll definitely be able to plug both slots in.  But was hoping someone could explain this to me a bit better, thank you in advance for any help!

Typically only one is actually needed, but for both overclocking and some of the higher power chips, depending on the platform, it can help with stability or may be required for certain CPUs.

It's a similar thing to comparing boards that have a 4 pin EPS connector to a board with an 8 pin EPS connector.

I have a 10700k. But as long as it doesn’t hurt by both being plugged in I definitely will plug them both when I go to change my cables out

it wont hurt it, but not necessary. Having both 8 pins or 8+4 plugged in is only really needed for doing exotic overclocking with LN2. Otherwise you wont ever draw enough power to hurt a single 8 pin.

What is LN2 overclocking? I know very little about overclocking

liquid nitrogen. The stuff you have likely seen Jayztwocents and GamersNexus doing with CPUs and GPUs over the past few months.
