Always fun to void a warenty! :) Any recommendations on colour? im suck between the MDPC black and the Grey. I really cant decide?

Oh man look at MDPC's Color 19 it is a very very dark gray almost black if you can not decide weather black or gray go with that one its a mix between both colors

I agree Shade 19 is super sexy. I used it in my build. It also looks extremely great with yellow, orange and color x(the red one).

You will need a lighter :) and cosairs sells a kit of sleeved cables on there site http://www.corsair.com/us/power-supply-units/psu-accessories-1.html

I don't think He has a corsair Modular PSU So buying Corsairs cables won't work for him.. If Im correct this is the PSU he has http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139046

Well he never said exactly wat he had so I supposedd it was modular if it's not my bad.

Im liking the Shade 19 like you mentioned' date=' bit of a difficult questions to answer as it depends on the psy i guess, but how many meters of sleeving would you guess that i needed? [/quote']

It's really hard to get a straight answer on this question. Before I undertook my project I asked around and noone would give me a straight answer. They all told me to measure it myself and multiply to the amount of individual cables and add 10-20% for errors.

If I had to say I would say 30 meters should be ok. I think that's what Nil's PSU kit comes with. I could be wrong. His site is down right now LOL it says "6th Jan. 2012: Sleeving the Power-Supply of my new Server. I will be back within the next 24 hours."

Does anyone have any experience sleeving cables like these?

ACC_8474_DxO.jpg

Compared to the 24 pin cables in that picture which is just a bundle of cables in one giant sleeve, the others are individual wires grouped together with what I assume is glue

I think they look terrible, and would like to sleeve them, anyone know how I would do it? Can I just pry the wires apart?

^^Yes you can just pry the wires apart and remove the sata power adapters in the middle to sleeve inbetween connectors.

You know that Corsair is selling cables that already have sleeving? But they only got the color's Black' date=' Blue, Red and White. Don't know if you knew that :)[/quote']

Those are only compatible with the AX series and considering the OP said his PSU is 700w it is not an AX series.

I just finished buying all the materials I need. Got 60 metres (200ft) of paracord (50ft black, 150 white) from a guy on eBay who gave me a pretty good deal: priority tracking from UK and all the paracord for around $30 (AUD). Then I went on to MDPC and they just happened to be open, so I bought the heat shrink and pin removal tool. That damn little things costs over $25. In regards to the heat shrink, I got 50 black pieces and 100 white. The total cost with shipping was $50. Now I just gotta buy a heatgun that I saw at Bunnings (Aussie hardware store) for $35. A little Ozito one- I've had one of their drills for quite a few years now and its running well so the heatgun should be good and not blow up :! So the total with paracord is $119. If I went with MDPC sleeving, it would have been $160!! So saved myself $40, hope it all works out :$ I suppose by the end of it I will be left with heaps of extra paracord and a heatgun, so money well spent I hope!

I went with the shade 19 (or whatever its called, the almost black one) and then the dark red.

Imo it looks good, and I did it without the heatshrink, looks cleaner imo. Dont know if that is possible with a non-modular PSU..

(Comming soon)

quick question, i was actually just about to sleeve my own PSU, and im pretty sure but not 100% about this. so here goes,

If i want to shorten the actual wire lengths of the cables, can i just cut them and re-attach the pins on the end? im assuming it shouldnt be a problem, would really appreciate some feedback, THANKS!!!!

If you wanna shorten them, go ahead - it'll be fine as long as you know how to re-attach the connectors

Got really motivated to do my own sleeving these last few days! i got some paracord royal blue and black, (like 8$ at army surplus). I actually didnt bother with pinning at all really, i practiced on an old PSU and was getting frustrated very quickly, i didnt have the time or money to spend on "pin removal" tools. (I was trying to do it with needles, tweezers, and brute force). However, i got the idea when doing a double wire splice. Utilizing the "springy" nature of the sleeving, i just cut the wires about 3/4'ths of the way from Pins--->PSU, Took a measured piece of sleeving the length of the cut wires (1/4th distance + 3/4th distance), shimmy the sleeving down the big 3/4ths end of wire, then splice the wire back, and shimmy the sleeving down the remaining 1/4th of wire, and make sure you have your heat shrink / lighter ready! After some practice, i was able to do each wire in about 2 minutes. Pretty damn good for a first timer id say, and no trouble with fudging/breaking pins and wires.

You will need to buy a specific crimper which to my knowledge are only available through MDPC or PPC's. You will also need to buy some crimp pins. I hope you didn't take the aboves advice and go ahead and snip your wires yet before you get those items.

Here are some pics from luto0
Lutr0 does do a good job of sleeving, but not at $70 bucks for a 24 pin extension. after buying all the 6pins and 8pins from him you could have your hole PSU sleeved and not just extension. or you could by everything yourself and do it for way less the what he wants for is labor. Sleeving is not hard by any means. it's just time consuming. For the time you have to wait for him to do the cables and send them to you. you could have just done it your self for half the price. Im not complaining about his sleeving jobs. He does do a really good job at it no doubt but good lord his prices are just way to high and takes little skill to do what he does its all in time consuming manor. That why he wont do full PSU's

The seller was 'bushcraftstore'. Good business. I was thinking of using a hairdryer but thought I'm spending so much on the whole show that I thought I would just do it properly :)
