Im looking to undertake my first mission into the modding world, the task at hand is sleeving my 700w corsair PSU

Anyone have any idea what size sleeving i should get for the 24 pin and 6 pin power, i would like to individually sleeve the cables and have no idea what sizes to get

Any help? :)

First off you will need the tools to remove the pin from the plug housing.

http://www.performance-pcs.com/catalog/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=60_143_272&products_id=29332

In terms of sleeving as far as I am aware there is only one size for power cables if you are talking about the length however you would need to measure the cables to see how much sleeving that you need and then add an extra bit onto the total amount in case you have forgotten a wire.

Some of the highest quality if not the highest quality is the sleeving from mdcp. It comes in a variety of colour to choose from so you can choose what colour you want to match your build.

Expanding on Dragon_cannons point. I would also have to say it is worth buy the tools of MDPC-X as well, The MDPC-X ATX pin remover and the crimper (if you are going to be fabricating your own cables) are awesome, there truly is no comparison between these and other tools in my opinion. Just remember you pay for what you get :)

I would strongly recommend you buy your tools from MDPC, the quality is second to none. You can find the tools here.

As for sleeving; it depends on what sleeve you want to use. You can use MDPC sleeve, or you can use Paracord. Paracord is good, cheap and readily availible but quite hard to keep clean. MDPC is more expensive, but looks great and holds it's shape better than paracord. For paracord, 550 strand is the normal quality you want to look out for and can be easily found on Amazon.

Agreed, if you're going to do it you might at well do it right. The MDPC tools and products are second to none, except for maybe the crimper where the Molex branded ones can match/beat it but for a significantly higher price.

Key is to take your time and practice on some spare pieces first.

After you're done be sure to go through with a multimeter or psu tester and verify everything was plugged back into the right spot. Last thing you want is to possibly fry your new computer parts.

You will need a lot of patience. Doing it properly for the first time takes ageees.

And plasters. You will cut yourself. :D

Sounds like a good time :)

Cheers for all the advice, guess ill save a little and go with the MDPC stuff, better to do it right than do it twice

Has to be done at some point, the quality of the sleeving on my Corsair psu is aweful, can see all the colours and stops like 2cm before the connector :(

I also vouch for MDPC tools and products. They are second to none and I love to support the independent like Nils over big box stores when possible. His contributions to the hobby deserve the reward of our consumerism. :)

I suggest practicing on some extensions or an old unused PSU if you have them laying around. Get the hang of it before starting on your nice PSU. I am finishing up mine now with panacord. Good luck.

Also great advice! I had to re do a few cables when I started my PSU because I fudged them up in several ways. :P

for single sleeving your PSU the actual size of the sleeving is 1/8 inch if you have 18 gauge wire. witch I do be leave your PSU does have. MDPC sleeving is pretty much the best you can get. On MDPC's website They relate the sleeving as Small or lage Sleeving but 1/8 is the actual size for the small sleeving. If you do buy from him make sure you get him Crimping tool, He has the best one for the PSU pins it crimps them really tight and it shapes then the true way they need to shape a nother good company for hard to find Items such as custom sleeving is this site http://www.moddiy.com/ I have ordered from them before as well. They ship from Hong Kong but shipping is really cheap from there it's I think $9 or $10 dollars for slandered air shipping over seas for most of there Items

http://www.moddiy.com/ I have ordered from them before as well

Have you seen their sleeving? Or can recommend any cheaper sleeving? I just dont want to end up with colours showing :(

If not ill just have to save for the MDPC :)

You could always go with paracord to sleeve the cables, it's extremely cheap, but it also is a little bit harder to work with.

Hey Tom what is your country of origin? Darkside sleeving from Dazmode in Canada is excellent high quality stuff right up there with MDPC but a bit cheaper I believe. The only downside is they don't sell the crimp tools or depin tools at Dazmode if you are into that sort of thing. But if you aren't doing custom lengths no problem no need for the crimper.

Yeah shipping from Canada wouldn't be your most economical choice. If you aren't planning on doing custom lengths or anything fancy I would recommend just going with MDPC. It's in Europe so shipping should be minimal. I would guess if you are buying sleeve and only sleeve it would probably only cost a few pounds or euros more then another brand and I promise you will never be disappointed with MDPC quality. :D

Just something to consider. IF you want a bright color sleeve the dark color cables underneath will show through and visa versa. Does your current PSU have one color of wires or does it use multiple?

It's when you start adding sleeving, and pins, and mdpc screws and anti vibration and molex and fan connectors and a crimper is when it starts to get really expensive :0. I spent over 400 bucks on my PSU to have custom lengths of MDPC. YIKES!

I have seen there sleeving and It does come very close to MDPC sleeving. I don't know what shipping is like in the UK but FrozenCPU sales Mod/Smart Kobra Sleeving http://www.frozencpu.com/cat/l3/g35/c493/s1326/list/p1/SleevingHeatshrink-ModSmart_-_High_Density_Kobra-18_HD_Sleeving-Page1.html and my wife has her PSU sleeving all the way with that stuff and it is very good stuff as well Bitspower makes sleeving to. I have not yet ordered any of it but what I have read about it Is you can't go wrong with that stuff ether
