Posted January 28, 2021 I have been holding off building a new sys for a few mths. I have started doing some 4k video editing for YouTube as a hobby and my PC reg hits 100% cpu in task manager when am doing some work on new videos. Am also running games like cyberpunk 2077. Stock of the AMD 5900x is limited here in the UK and the best price is just over £611 for about the same money i can get a 3950x £608. Witch is better 5900x or 3950x? and why? Posted January 28, 2021 3950X is far from bad for gaming, and if 5900X CPUs are hard to buy due to stock issues, the 16 core CPU might be the better option. I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B Primary PC: i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 11 and Fedora Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me. Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference. PSU tier list How many watts do I need? PSU misconceptions, protections explained, group reg is bad Link to comment https://linustechtips.com/topic/1299665-need-a-hand-picking-a-cpu/#findComment-14434293 Share on other sites
 Posted January 28, 2021 Get the 5900x, if both CPUs are roughly the same price. The IPC increase, therefore single threaded improvements, made from 3rd Gen Ryzen to 4th Gen Ryzen (5000 series) is massive, and almost makes up for the 4 fewer cores. For gaming, it will make a pretty big difference, but you might have to spend an extra 30 seconds rendering the video etc. It's up to you to decide if it's worth it. The more I learn, the more I realise I don't actually know anything. Recommendations: Lian Li 205m (sleek, pretty decent airflow for a non-mesh front panel and cheap), i5-10400f (Ryzen 5 3600 performance, 20% cheaper), Arctic P14 PWM fans, Logitech g305.
