2080Ti to 6900XT Crash/Reboots

Err, no? there will only be an issue when the system draws to much power - possibly in a certain way (aka *SPIKES*)

Seems to be exactly the same as with 30xx cards.

(note: which worked fine with my 500w Bequiet psu, weirdly... goes to show the wattage isn't the deciding factor here - I play with Vsync on however and my card doesn't draw much power then usually... around 200w, but if I unlock everything it's happily using 270w +)

True, was suspecting PSU as well...but the OP has now since switched PSUs.

Previously he had a EVGA SuperNOVA 850W GA, which supposedly have been reported with issue handling high power / transient power spikes.

The PSU has since been returned, and swapped with an Corsair RM 850W, but issue was still present.

Weird part is this..

I’m using 3 separate cables. It needs 3 in total. I did update bios, my previous version was only a couple months old. I believe this clears cmos when you do that. Maybe not. Going to see what happens. It usually reboots and crashes after being off for awhile. For example, today I booted and as I went to type in my pin it rebooted. Then I ran red dead 2 and it rebooted. After that I was able to play the game with out crashes.

Happened again this morning, turned on the PC and it booted into windows and after 2 or 3 seconds rebooted. Screen was black for maybe 10 seconds and then turned on. It then got to the screen to put in your pin but then rebooted again. After a 3 boot I am up and running in windows and seems fine now.

Ah, sorry I missed that.

They also say it's almost as good as the rmx... however this whole PSU situation is a mess currently.

His Corsair RM 850W isnt enough. He got bad advice.

https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/corsair-rm850-power-supply,6127.html

3.5 stars out of 5.

Well did actually READ the review, and WHY it got a 3.5/5?

Do you know what is considered a 5/5?

  • Price
  • "Lower quality capacitor" because they are not Japanese branded -- this has been given more context by Mr. Guru himself, and rather NOT lower quality caps
  • Use a non-Corsair fan -- cut costs to keep it down below the RMx line-up

Both the RM and RMx both use CWT as the OEM.

They gave the RMx 850W a 4/5 rating.

Yet both RMx and RM are rated a Tier-A (top tier) PSUs.

Day 2 no crashes, the steps I took fixed it. I still think switching to corsair PSU helped out, video card does not make coil whine noises anymore. I don't know if coil whine is what i was hearing but with the EVGA there was alot of strange sounds coming from the card. That stopped when I switched PSU. Thanks for the help @-rascal-

Coil whine is a tricky thing.

Certain GPU + PSU + Motherboard combinations can trigger it, while another GPU + PSU + Motherboard configuration won't.

For an example, if one system had everything the same, but one had an ROG StriX ASUS 6900 XT, and another system had an ASUS TUF 6900 XT....

The system with the TUF 6900 XT would experience coil whine, while the other system would not.

Coil whine can be also caused by other reasons, like how the PSU is being loaded, etc.

But if crash free for two days now...some good news. Keep an eye out for another day or two, and give us another update.

You also changed the fan profiles and disabled 0 RPM mode, and poked around the sleep / hibernate settings.

(Some doubts on the 0 RPM mode, as that requires the drivers to load up during start-up to take affect)

Might be useful for other 6900 XT users too 🙂

Calling this issue officially solved. Steps below fixed the random rebooting and wattman errors after installing a 6900xt. Thanks @-rascal-

"Really, appreciate it. I have dug deep into the wattman issue and other 6900xt threads. Seems like it has been spread throughout other AMD cards, 5600/5700. I did just try something new. I sent into power button options and checked sleep and hibernate only. Before I unchecked all trying to get that to work. I also went into the advanced system settings and unchecked auto restart after system failure in start up and recovery options. After that went into AMD adrenaline and hit factory reset. Not hopeful but I did see this fixed another persons issue. Fingers crossed."

After a week of working perfectly. It rebooted once yesterday with a WATTMAN error and this morning rebooted 5 times back to back on startup with no WATTMAN error. No idea what is going on now.
