Games refresh rates are capped when trying to run other resolutions other than 1920x1080

Monitor: ACER NITRO XV240YP 23.8 inches 144hz

Hey, i'm hoping if anyone has a fix for this. Whenever I try running other games at different resolution for example csgo, 4:3 1280x960. My monitor refresh rate drops from 120hz to 60hz. It seems that my monitor can only run 120hz on 1920x1080. I am using a laptop with the monitor as the main display with a HDMI cable as my laptop does not have other ports other than this. I quite like playing on 4:3 and im hoping if anyone has the same problem or fixes for this as running the game on 1920x1080 120hz kinda sucks cause my laptop cant output enough fps for the 120hz and sometimes it feels weird playing it.
