Hey guys,

So I am building a cheap game server to host a CS:GO Jailbreak server and a small Minecraft Server, I will be spending about 250 pounds.

I build I came up with is:

CPU: Intel Pentium (haswell)

RAM: 4gb Corsair Vengence

PSU Corsair CX500 (might add a gpu to it)

HDD: WD 160GB 2.5" (Pulled out of a laptop)

CASE: Cooler Master Storm Enforcer (I have this already)

As for motherboard, I was going to go with an Asus ITX, but not sure on what one I should get.

So just need help on what to choose for the motherboard and any other changes I should make.

Thanks, Alfie.

Galaxy: Intel i7 3770k @ 4.5Ghz (Cooled by a h105) - ASUS Sabertooth Z77 - Corsair Vengeance 8gb Ram - Nvidia GTX 780 2 way Sli - Corsair HX850i - Corsair C70

Razer Blackwidow Ultimate Battlefield 4 Collectors Edition (TO BE REPLACED BY K65 RGB) - Logitech G502 - Hyperx Cloud

I'd aim for 8gb of ram. It'll help especially with Minecraft

Why not an AMD 8350 and the cheapest board you can get? It will perform a lot better than the intel pentiums do. they are made for cheap office computers. You will have 2 awfully laggy servers if you use one of those.

I am not totally sure, but for a minecraft server you might benefit from more RAM. I could be wrong but minecraft servers seem to need a lot.

Depends on how many people he plans to host for.

Probably power consumption and possibly noise. Depending on the size of the server, a pentium is probably more than enough.

Jailbreak servers are typically 24 players+

there is no way he would be able to run a good server on this awful hardware.

True.

A modern i3 would be fine for that but I'm not sure how a pentium would compare. The specs aren't that bad..

Thanks for the ideas guys, I might go with a AMD 8 core (8320?) or an i3, but the 8 core might be much better for this. I do plan to go with 8gb, but I am going with 4gb for now.

So I could get the AMD 8 Core, or go with the Intel i3 for a bit cheaper, not sure what to get.

Looking online, both Minecraft and CS:GO both are single threaded, so would it be better for me to go with the Intel i3? instead of the AMD 8320.

Current Minecraft servers can take advantage of multiple threads.
