What year is it? 😄 From memory tracking was something to do with the alignment between the head and tape. Depending on the player, it can re-adjust itself or might require a manual adjustment.

Main system: i9-7980XE, Asus X299 TUF mark 2, Noctua D15, Corsair Vengeance Pro 3200 3x 16GB 2R, RTX 3070, NZXT E850, GameMax Abyss, Samsung 980 Pro 2TB, Acer Predator XB241YU 24" 1440p 144Hz G-Sync + HP LP2475w 24" 1200p 60Hz wide gamut
Gaming laptop: Lenovo Legion 5, 5800H, RTX 3070, Kingston DDR4 3200C22 2x16GB 2Rx8, Kingston Fury Renegade 1TB + Crucial P1 1TB SSD, 165 Hz IPS 1080p G-Sync Compatible

Indeed, that's a basic explanation of what tracking is. Although, not only is it useful to get a more stable picture, but concerning tapes with Hi-Fi audio (especially if the tape's not an SP-mode tape), it's very useful for reducing audible noise assuming all other factors are fine.

Im using obs to record. Does it matter if i recors in 30 or 60fps

I think vhs is in 30fps, so would it make a difference if i record in 60fps

Assuming you're in a NTSC region, it's 60 Hz interlaced, equivalent to 30 Hz deinterlaced. Just try it and see what looks better for you.

PAL system then (unless you have an imported VHS source/player). 50 Hz interlaced, 25 Hz deinterlaced. Same still applies, just experiment and see what works best.

Deinterlace using Yadif2x and record at 50fps.
