Corsair SP120 Performance or Quiet Edition?

BigChimp97

So if I could buy any of them, which would you recommend?

What size did you need again? Just 120mm?

Either tbh, but I know that I'd definitely need a 140mm for an exhaust (which I'd get later)

I'd get the akasa one for the 140mm, and quiet edition sp120's for the rest since you can get those "bundle" two packs for a good price.  (They're decently priced here)

If you want a cheaper option than the sp120s:

Are the SP120's good fans for noise levels good for the amount of air that they push?

I haven't tried them before, only the high performance ones. But the high performance ones weren't that loud at lower RPM, so I'd assume the quieter ones would be quieter. (Hence the name haha)

It's uses that the stock fans at 5v do not push enough air through, my pc actually over heated once whilst I was live streaming and forgot to change the voltage -.- but at 12v they're very loud, hoping the SP120's are quiter, plus the static pressure should help push the air through the little vents the R4 has :)

Oh yeah you could run them at 12v no problem. They'd be audible, but not during gaming/streaming sessions, your GPU+CPU cooler would mask the noise most likely.

One thing I really don't like about a lot of fans, they say they're "20 DB" or something, and when people do actual tests of them, it's more like 40-50.  When in reality, the only time they're "20 db" is at like 5v lol

Haha xD yer that's true lol, I've got a CoolerMaster Hyper 12 Evo, so it's not that loud tbh, the loudest thing atm is my GPU and stock fans.... And obviously fans are a lot cheaper than a new GPU haha :), what fans do you think I should get for my exhaust when I can? (140mm)

Are the SP120's PWM?

I think they have PWM versions and 3 pin, not 100% sure.

OP you dont have to be afraid to get the Corsair SP120 Quiet Editiion fans, ive bought 2 this week for my NH-D14 and they are awesome. They look absolutely badass, are almost inaudiblle up to max speeds(for me alteast) compared to Noctua/Noiseblockers they are almost for free. SP fans are great as an intake aswell if you have drive cage behind them or you have restricted airflow in front of them. To be able to use air flow fans you need atleast 3cm of free space around the fan. You can also get the AF140mm Corsair for exhaust if you want to stay with the cool looking corsair scheme, the fan is only 3 pin iirc but runs at 1100rpm which will be quiet anyways.

If you want silent great looking cheap PWM fan go for the SP120QE, if you want max performance and dont mind using controler or something to get the RPM down go for Gentle Tyhoons they are simply the best non PWM fans. Dont waste money on Noctua tbh

I'll probably just go with the whole Corsair look, and hook all the fans to the fan controller on the front of the case :) or would you recommend me getting PWM? Thanks for all that info though!! It's helped a lot :)

I've also left the hard drive cage in so the SP's should help a lot :) plus the little air vents that the case breathes from at the front

really depends on what is your preference, i prefer PWM since i dont have controler and if i would i would most likely forgot to ramp up the fans when gaming. With PWM fans i just let mobo control the CPU fans and have Speedfan taking care of case fans RPM.

Since you have controler i would consider going for the Gentle Typhoons as they are pretty much supperior(but non pwm). They are hard to get by in some countries these days since the production stoped :( They dont look as cool as Corsair but they are quite better http://martinsliquidlab.org/2013/05/07/fan-testing-round-12/

You can go wrong with either of them. have fun upgrading :D

I can buy them in the UK but..... They're like £22 each.... I could buy 2 SP120's for that price lol, I've heard good things about them though, sad that they stopped production

wow thats quite expensive compared to czech prices...sometimes is cool to live in country where almost nobody has a clue, they look like regular fans so the price looks according to that here (around 13bucks for typhoons and less then 30 for 2x SPs ) :D

Corsair it is then ? As i said i can only recomend them and cant wait till next paycheck to buy the rest of them for my case(so far got them only on cpu)
