i installed ubuntu on a pc and the download speeds are are worse than windows(out of the box).

Right, because an OS is the only thing that affects download speeds, and download speeds alone are indicative of the overall usability of a piece of software...

You're comparing Steam on Windows to Steam on Linux. The main difference here that could potentially result in different performance or user experience is the OS. There is literally no difference between Steam itself on Windows and Linux.

 

Source: I ran Windows for many years and am currently running Arch (btw).

on windows i can download/install a game at like 14MB/s compared to linux/ubuntu's like 3MB/s max. i did install steamOS first and it wouldnt recognize my pcie wifi card. thats why i went with ubuntu in my quest for gaming on linux.

Did you install the updates for Ubuntu after installing?

yeah, i updated it a couple of days ago(actually installed it a couple of days ago for the first time). Ubuntu recognized my wifi hardware right away and was pretty much operate-able "out of the box"..the "usb box" or whatever..

Hmmm, interesting, I'm surprised because usually any version of Linux is the go to for verifying Windows isn't the issue with network speeds. If you run a speedtest is it roughly what you're paying for? Perhaps the game being downloaded is coming from a server under high load?

im pretty sure i did the speed test and it was running..wait no..its slow in the browser too. i just remembered. i'll have to hop on it and retest it and get back to this discussion.

cool, i might check that out and PopOS i read too. but idk. i still have ubuntu installed on my pc so yeah..im still in the air about what route to go if not every route lol...
