Wtf are you talking about? AMD or Nvidia cards Can run directx software. And to tell you Nvidia Can run mantle to if they want. The one thing that AMD cards do not have is physics like the Nvidia cards.

I mean, for users who would've chosen Nvidia over AMD, if Mantle hadn't been a thing, I guess it's a kind of "haha, how do you feel now?" type of thing, but imo, we get the best of both worlds. DirectX 12 and Mantle. Then there's TruAudio. 

I mean, say what you want about how that will turn out, but one major part of Mantle is CPU & GPU synchronization. IIRC, Nvidia has some plan for that (NVLink or something), but Mantle is already out (for some games). 

... Regardless, I am perfectly happy choosing AMD. Consistent FPS > Average FPS.
