Testing audio interface for musicians

Hello,

I am a musician and the Covid pandemic has prevented me and my band mates to perform our weekly jam sessions.

I would like you guys to review several external or even internal audio interfaces for musicians.

One of the big problem with audio interface is latency.

If we could benchmark audio interfaces and their computer connectivity to find out which perform the best.

What is the best? USB 3 or Thunderbold or any other connector type that would reduce the latency to its minimum.

Ultimately I would like to find the best solution / setup for Online Jam Sessions using a software like Jammulus or Jammr.

Thanks guys, hope you can help me out.

The biggest latency in that sort of situation will come from the network connection, orders of magnitude higher than the interface latency, besides, RTL has already been tested extensively on other forums with lists of interfaces with the answer to this question relatively commonplace.

In short, latency will come from the network far more than the interface. I have a USB 2 interface that has single digit millisecond latency so connector isn't even a factor here.

The brain will fix any latency problems for anything below 10ms most interface are between 3ms and 8ms. From my knowledge the high end Motu interface are regularly the lowest normally below 5ms. But internet and network will be the biggest problem. In the UK where I live the average latency between another computer in the UK is around 40ms to 60ms so it doesnt matter if you got the lowest latency interface because the internet is such a big problem.

MOTU is a good shout when it comes to latency, them and RME usually come close to (if not at the) top when it comes to latency on their PCIE and USB interfaces, this is some of the more recent test data I've seen and it is quite interesting, BUT, we both agree none of this matters if the RTL is below 10 (and it won't be due to network latency)
